Concussion Update

"Concussion" Doctor Recent Lecturer at Florida Atlantic University

Dr. Bennet Omalu, the first Doctor to discover and diagnose
Dr. Bennet Omalu

chronic brain damage in NFL Athletes was the recent guest lecturer at the Florida Atlantic University (FAU) Jupiter, Florida campus.

In 2002, Dr. Omalu identified chronic brain damage as a major factor in the deaths of professional athletes. He named the disease Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE). This discovery and career breakthrough came about as the result of the autopsy he performed on Mike Webster, a Pittsburgh Steelers' Center who met an untimely death at age 50. While conducting the autopsy, Dr. Omalu realized that Mike Webster's brain revealed something never seen before.

Omalu: We Successfully Identified CTE
in a Living Person

Bennet Omalu, the doctor credited with discovering the neurodegenerative disease chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), told ESPN Thursday that a recent autopsy confirmed experimental research into diagnosing CTE in a living person.
Previously, CTE could only be diagnosed posthumously. However, Omalu said results of testing done on former Vikings linebacker Fred McNeill while he was alive were very similar to what was found in an autopsy after McNeill's November 2015 death.

Visceral Applications for Pediatrics (VAP)

Recap from Chicago, IL class held on
October 1 - 4, 2015

24 therapists along with staff came from 11 states and Canada recently to attend the VAP workshop with Instructor Jean Anne Zollars, PT, DPT, MA, BI-D. Several local children benefited from the course material, demonstrations and practice sessions.

Seminar highlights include:
  • Embryology and the developmental landmarks (normal and abnormal) that occur month by month during and after gestation
  • Working with those who are tactilely sensitive
  • Exploring special considerations, e.g. typical surgeries, prematurity, children with neuromotor problems and craniosynostosis
  • Integrating specific treatment techniques for common visceral restrictions found in children, as well as Barral's approach to cranial techniques
Recent students said...

"Great class helping you integrate your skills/knowledge of CST, VM, NM and improves your listening skills."

"Thank you, now I understand why embryology is so important.
I just knew there was something I was missing!"

Don't miss out! VM Pediatrics only offered 3 more times in 2016

Visceral Manipulation Study Groups and Practice Groups
null

Enjoy the Benefits...

Study Groups create wonderful opportunities to practice the skills you have already learned and further your understanding of your chosen modality by sharing experiences and asking questions of other like-minded practitioners.

Study Groups include hands-on practice, techniques review and time available to have your questions answered.  Study Groups are led by Instructors, Teaching Assistants, or Certified Therapists.

Practice Groups are more informal, and allow for students to practice in order to prepare for further study.

To learn more about adult learning and why Study Groups are so important, please click here.
