If you're a Facebook user, you can do something - right here and now - to help us spread the word about Basket Day! Just click on the Facebook image to the right, which will take you to our Facebook Event page for Basket Day. If you then do two things - (1) clicking "Going" on that page (or clicking "Interested" if you're not), then (2) clicking "Share" to save it to your own newsfeed, lots more people will get the news about Basket Day than would see it otherwise. It will only take a moment, but it will make a big difference. Many thanks!
From the Pastor...

This Sunday is Mother’s Day: a day for honoring - or honoring the memory of - those women who brought us into the world. We remember those who have cared for and nurtured us when we were young: in most cases they were our natural mothers, but for some of us, others stepped forward to fulfill that vital role. It’s been said that the task of all who take on the nurture fo children is to give them “roots and wings.”

This Sunday we focus on the “wings” part: the poignant truth that children need, one day, to be released to live their own lives. That’s part of motherhood too - maybe the hardest part. But it’s part of God’s loving plan.

We'll do that by looking at one of the famous mothers of the Bible: Hannah, whose son Samuel grew up to become one of the greatest of Israel's prophets. (She's pictured here as a modern artist has imagined her.) Her story may be found in 1 Samuel 1:9-28 .

Hannah had difficulty conceiving. She longed for a child, but when she was fortunate enough to have a son, she "lent him to the Lord," sending him to live in the Temple to be trained by the priests for the Lord's service. That decision was not easy to make, but she did it as an expression of her powerful faith.

Hannah gave her little boy Samuel his wings a good deal earlier than most children. We honor her for that, just as we honor all mothers who prepare their sons and daughters to grow up to serve God.

Join us in worship!

Pastor Carl
