Richmond’s Annual MLK Day of Service on the Greenway is Coming Up!
Greening the Last Mile Project Funded in Richmond!
The City of Richmond and Friends of the Richmond Greenway (FORG) are hosting the 11th Annual MLK Jr. National Day of Service and the Grand Opening of Unity Park, a local community-designed park. Held each year on the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, Richmond’s Day of Service represents the single largest community volunteer effort in West Contra Costa County. On this day, hundreds of local residents and friends from around the Bay Area gather to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to serve others by working in the community to improve the Richmond Greenway Trail.

Service projects will include plantings, mulching, and litter cleanup. One service project led by Groundwork Richmond will be part of a larger effort to increase green spaces, not just around the Richmond Greenway Trail, but also in Iron Triangle, Santa Fe, and Coronado neighborhoods thanks to a recent grant awarded to the city & the Trust for Public Land. There will be a ribbon cutting for recently constructed Unity Park on the Greenway, speeches by local leaders, and FREE hot meals for community volunteers.
