AIA New Orleans is proud to celebrate the legacy of Sam Wilson Jr. with a reinterpretation of his famous walking tours of New Orleans.
Join us on Saturday, May 12th from 2:00PM to 4:30PM as we trace his steps on Bayou St. John.
Samuel Wilson, Jr. (1911-1993), noted architect, educator, and preservationist was born in New Orleans, grew up in the Carrollton area, and attended Warren Easton High School. At age sixteen he enrolled in the Tulane School of Architecture, graduating in 1931.Wilson was dedicated to giving historic buildings a new life and a new use. He also developed a keen interest in the history of architecture in Louisiana and the Gulf South. This tour will celebrate his career and legacy in preservation...

AIA New Orleans is excited to present the next installment in the Building Tour Series -- Village de Jardin, on Tuesday, May 22 (**note this tour was moved from May 17th to the 22nd due to the AIA National Convention).
Project Description:
A new senior housing community for the Louisiana Housing Finance Authority, was developed for individuals 55 years and older. The traditional neighborhood concept was utilized to offer services and supportive housing which enables residents to live well and age in place. The total development is 11.4 acres in size with a total of 224 living units. The main street allows for a pedestrian friendly environment and activates the street edge through the service components located in the Mixed-Use complex. The design offers diversity by providing multiple building types that range from single family homes to small and large apartment buildings...
