What is your name? Julia Furtado-Lavoie

What's your current job? Senior Payroll, Human Resource and Benefit Sales Advisor for Paychex Cape Cod's Small Business Team.

What do you love most about it? The face to face meetings with small business owners from all over Cape Cod. They represent such diverse backgrounds and interests. It's exciting and fulfilling to help them find a solution for their business and their employees.

How long have you been a member of Cape Space and what do you like most about it thus far? I have been a member of Cape Space since July 2016. I love the team here. They are all so friendly. Robbin and all of her knowledge and expertise. She really cares about the members. Anna and her smiling face when I walk in the door. We both love cats and love exchanging stories about our fur-kids. Katelyn is usually the one to wish me a nice night on my way out the door. Jeffrey is very helpful and is always there to help me work through a technical issue.

When not working, what do you like to do? I teach Spinning/Cycling classes throughout Cape Cod and SE MA/Buzzards Bay at various gyms like Fitness500 here in Hyannis.

Guilty Pleasure: What can you not live without? My ipad. Everything I need is on there: iBooks, banking, shopping, cat pics!

Favorite Movie? Well, it's hard to say so I will go with a more recent one: Gravity. I am not one to repeat watch a movie, but I watched this one about a dozen times.

Favorite Book? Walden by Henry David Thoreau inspired me as a young girl. I am sure it read it every year. I especially loved the quote that we must "Live deeply and suck out all the marrow from life." I try to do that every day.

Favorite TV Show? Game of Thrones. I am a huge fan.

What is one thing that you would like people to know about you? I am a hobby chef at home. I love to cook and could cook for hours on the weekends. It's a big passion.

The Evolution of the Workplace
Robbin's recent article from
Cape & Plymouth Business Magazine:

“Shared workspace” is a term that describes any situation where people are working independently but sharing physical space and resources. Many variations exist within the shared workspace industry and many terms are used, or misused, to describe them. This article is an attempt to explain the nature of this industry and why it has become so popular.

Author Presentation & Book Signing

Author Sandra Bolton joined us for an evening of wine and cheese and talk about that gem of a village, Marstons Mills.

Sandra has just published Explore Contemporary Marstons Mills, Cape Cod, a photo-essay about today’s Marstons Mills.

The event was well-attended and Sandra sold out every copy of her delightful book. We also learned some very fun and interesting factoids – but you’ll have to buy the book to find out what they are!

Summer Social with CCTC

CapeSpace was delighted to host the Cape Cod Technology Council’s annual social event. We enjoyed cocktails and delicious appetizers from The Pineapple Caper Catering Company.

President Bert Jackson made welcome remarks and gave industry updates, including a preview of the Council’s next First Friday meeting on the fascinating topic of biomimicry.

Check out the CCTC website for information on that and more.

Wine & Cheese Event with Bert Jackson
Bert Jackson, Director of Community Outreach for The Blue Economy Project, gave us some fascinating insight into the challenges for the Cape’s economy and ecology, and the ways in which The Blue Economy Project is working to address those challenges.  The Blue Economy is all about water, the Cape’s most precious resource, and how we encourage and nurture sustainable water-based businesses to create jobs and stimulate growth.   Bert’s talk generated lots of excitement, questions and opinions.

The Blue Economy Project is about to kick off a series of listening sessions where you too can ask questions and voice opinions.  To find out more check out the Blue Economy website.
