Come and learn about the many bee products within the hive and how they are beneficial to bees and humans and animals. In this introduction we will learn about pollen, propolis, bee bread, honeydew, beeswax, royal jelly, apilarnil, and of course honey and venom. Taught by beekeeper Lea Campolo who has been keeping bees for seventeen years and also helps out each season at Best Bees, Boston's Urban Laboratory and bee management services.

As an introduction to knitting we will cover casting on and off as well as the only two stitches in knitting: knit and purl. Once comfortable with these new skills we will move onto knitting in the round and shaping techniques with increasing and decreasing stitches. We will also discuss the difference between various fibers and how to choose wisely for each project. With your newly acquired skills you will be able to whip up birthday and holiday gifts for everyone you know as well as special projects for yourself.

produce, the kinds of products that can be canned and preserved at home, canning do's and don'ts, and the equipment you'll need to get started. We'll discuss basic food preservation techniques as well as what produce lends itself to which preservation technique and why. You'll leave with samples and the skills to start doing your own canning at home.

This course begins with a basic introduction to herbalism, the proper use of herbs, and how to take better take care of your health. Students will learn about plants medicinal properties and their uses. In addition, each students will create and customize herbal preparations.

4 Sundays | January 17 |  11am-1pm | $132 | 

In this class you'll get familiar with typical woodworking tools and the basics of joinery and finishing techniques by building the foundational shape from which most furniture and structures are constructed - a box! We will be creating a small (roughly 3x6x9") box with a lid. We will discuss different types of wood and what factors go into your choice of material. We will also discuss different types of joints, and both the structural and aesthetic reasons you may want to use one joint method over another. We will also discuss the different finish options, including waxes, oils, stains, varnishes, and paint, and you will get instruction on how to apply a stain or oil finish to your final piece.

8 Mondays |January 11 | 6-9pm | $250 |

You can learn, expand, or just review all levels of quilting with a project you choose. We'll start with the basics of choosing fabrics, cutting and piecing and bordering, and then move on to quilting in this class for all levels of quilters. If time allows, we will explore some additional techniques such as crazy quilting and appliqué. Knowledge of sewing is not necessary.
