"My time with AMF has given me the opportunity to share my grief experience, and allowed me to help others who are going through a loss. Having been involved with National Student of AMF for many years has changed my life in so many ways.  I credit this organization a lot for helping me through my grief, by meeting so many inspiring and uplifting individuals. We all share this common bond of wanting to build a community that can help others who are going through a loss, and grow closer together in the process. I know if I need any sort of emotional support or just someone to talk to, my AMF friends are just a phone call away. It has been such an important and influential organization for so many people, and I can truly say National Students of AMF has helped shape the person I am today."  Loreal, University of Florida

Help other young adults like Loreal

LorealLoreal, University of Florida

As a High School graduation present Loreal's family decided to go to Hawaii.  However, the second day into the vacation didn't turn out as they had planned.  During a snorkeling trip off the coast of Waikiki, Loreal experienced a loss like no other.  Her mom dove into the water and unexpectedly became unresponsive. Loreal, her sister and her dad watched as they pulled her mom out of the water and began CPR.  Her mom died in the hospital the next day.  June 20th was the last day Loreal was able to be with her mom and the day her life changed forever.

Loreal2Loreal's mom always told her to dream big and work hard for what you want in life.  She took that ambition, and warmth to college at the University of Florida. Throughout her freshman year she worked hard and made great accomplishments.  She did what all college students are supposed to do, go to class, make friends, and study.  Though, there were definitely many days were she felt lonely.  None of her friends at the time had gone through a loss of someone so close to them, and even though they tried their best to comfort her they did not understand what she was going through.

Doing some internet research, Loreal discovered National Students of AMF. This was the organization she was looking for. With many exchanged emails, she was on her way to starting an AMF chapter at the University of Florida.

"National Students of AMF is such a wonderful organization which allows college students the opportunity to connect and share our experiences. It is a one of kind organization that truly makes me the person I am today. I know due to the existence of this organization so many lives have been touch and changed at the University of Florida and many other college campuses throughout the US. All of our loved ones would appreciate the amazing support and friendship AMF provides us. I feel this organization is a dedication to all of our deceased and ill loved ones. It is truly not all about sadness... it's about cherishing the life you had with your loved ones."

Loreal just completed her masters in Medical Sciences from the University of South Florida. She is currently working as a public health researcher for the university and hoping to pursue a career in medicine.
