Pinellas County is under a Hurricane Watch/Storm Surge Watch. Hurricane Ian is forecast to approach the Florida peninsula at or near major hurricane strength by Wednesday, September 28, with rapid intensification forecast to continue as the storm moves over the western Caribbean Sea and eastern Gulf of Mexico. Pinellas County is in the three-day cone for Hurricane Ian. Pinellas County Emergency Management recommends everyone review their emergency plans and supplies.
Evacuations are recommended for Zones A, B and C, including all mobile homes, beginning immediately. Effective at 6 PM Today, all residents in Evacuation Zone A (including all mobile home residents) will be under mandatory evacuation orders. Mandatory orders for evacuation zones B and C will be effective tomorrow morning at 7 AM. All residential healthcare facilities will be under mandatory evacuation orders starting today as well. Please note that mandatory evacuations apply to businesses located in evacuation zones. Shelters will begin opening tonight.
