The Children's Lunchbox Tackles Child Hunger

Childhood hunger is a very real problem in Anchorage. The Children's Lunchbox takes that challenge to heart every day. Feeding over 520 at-risk kids heathy meals every day is what we're all about. We offer a variety of programs including our weekend food program that sends home over 2000 bags each and every Friday during the school year to help meet the growing need for food aid.

Special thanks go to our community partners that help us get the word out about our mission. One of our partners is Kriner's Diner located at 2409 C Street, Anchorage, Alaska. They donate a portion of the proceeds from "Andy's Awesome Burger," their most popular burger, to The Children's Lunchbox. Go in and try one today!

Another community partner out on the frontlines is Harding Ranch. Harding Ranch has partnered with us for two years. Last year they donated 8,000 lbs. of meat to help feed hungry kids in Anchorage. This year they are collecting donations for our weekend food program. Each driver carries a wish list of our food needs.

The ongoing support from the Mt. View Lions Club is amazing! They purchase food for us, bring the donation in for us to weigh and then pay us $2 per pound for the food they donate. It's quite a program! Members also donate their time at community feasts in the fall and help with the weekend food program throughout the school year.

The Children's Lunchbox would like to recognize and say thank you to these community partners for all you do!

Letter from the Executive Director

In the three months I have had the pleasure to serve as the executive director of Bean's Caf I have been awed by the broad-based community support of the organization and our programs. The support is evident in so many ways, big and small. From being the top recipient in Alaska for funds from Pick.Click.Give. to the volunteers that donate countless hours serving meals at Bean's Caf and help prepare weekend food bags for The Children's Lunchbox, everyone has a reason why they support our mission so generously.

Recently I was privileged to attend the 10th Annual Fall Harvest at Huffman Elementary. Each year the students and staff plant potatoes and carrots which are later donated to Bean's Caf. The excitement visible on the faces of the children picking the vegetables was so inspiring! This year they will donate over 1,500 pounds of fresh, Alaska grown potatoes and carrots. They have even honored our former director by naming one of the garden beds in his memory, Crockett's Carrots.

I would love to learn from you why you support Bean's Caf and The Children's Lunchbox. Meeting with our volunteers and donors is always a priority for me. If you have a story to share please give me a call or drop me an email. Thank you for your continued support!
