Beat the Heat : Staff Picks
Dave's Pick:
2016 Cave de Lugny Macon-Lugny 'Les Charmes'
Cave de Lugny makes high value and reliable white Burgundy. Whether you need a break from a steady diet of Sauvignon Blanc or something to quaff while your prestigious bottles mature, the Les Charmes is accessible and delicious. 2016 was a quality vintage across Burgundy and, as is typical, high quality can be found at the more affordable end of the spectrum. Les Charmes itself is fresh and driven by just ripe enough orchard fruit. The wine is fermented in stainless steel with a judicious second, malolactic fermentation and lees ageing before bottling. This yields enough richness to pair well with a wide variety of foods without overwhelming its refreshing nature. -$14.99
Doug's Pick:
2017 Ameztoi, Getariako Txakolina, Hundurabi Zuri
If you're not familiar with Txakolis, this is a pretty good place to start. This Basque wine typically has searingly high acidity, low alcohol, crunchy green minty and herbal aromatics and a slight effervescence. I've always been a big fan of this wine especially for pairing with sushi or oysters. It is immensely thirst quenching and a great option all summer long.   -$20.99
Patti's Pick:
2017 Leitz Rose of Pinot Noir
Tasty with a tiny prickle on the tongue this rose of pinot noir is super refreshing on a hot day in Minnesota. The Loess and loam soil composition of the vineyards located in the Johannisberg district of the Rheingau region of Germany, impart a distinct mineral character to the wine. Tart and lively with strawberry and raspberry with the puckering acidity of fresh rhubarb and citrus. Serve it up with fancy charcuterie board or pair it with your next backyard barbeque. -$19.99
Madison's Pick:
2016 Marchesini Marcello Bardolino Classico
Another summertime red recommendation, this time coming from the shores of Lake Garda in Northern Italy. Light and fresh with tart cherry and earth on the nose, this Bardolino will certainly take well to a light chill on a hot summer day. -$16.99
