January 7, 2018

Dear Neighbors
Jeannette & Carlos

Back in December, YCSO Deputy Carlos Godina and BCCAT Chair Jeannette Estes held their bi-annual Dump the Drugs event at the Beaver Creek Adult Center.  This time the super duo collected 14 lbs of pills, 8 lbs of liquids, 9 lbs of containers and 2 lbs of needles.  Thank you to everyone who dropped off medications for safe disposal.  The event will be held again in May.  If you need to dispose drugs safely in the meantime, both the Camp Verde Marshal's Office and the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office in Camp Verde west of I-17 have ongoing collection as do many other first responder sites in the county and throughout Arizona.

Come out and join the Beaver Creek Trails Coalition for a fun and informative afternoon or morning on a trail at one of the Second Saturday Hikes planned for the next three months.  Second Saturday Hikes are not just about hiking the recently completed Wickiup Mesa Trails, but also give hikers a chance to learn about plants and wildlife of this area, the geology, and about the native people who inhabited this area long ago.  Each Second Saturday Hike features a local expert on a topic of interest who will not only "walk the walk" along the trail but also "talk the talk" of the day's special topic.  VV Archeology Center Executive Director Ken Zoll will be the first guest for the hike this Saturday which starts at 1 PM at the Forestglen Trailhead.

The Beaver Creek Kiwanis kids' clubs and our local 4H students will do their traditional Christmas tree recycling in conjunction with the Redrock Ranger District in Coconino National Forest.  You may drop off your undecorated trees next to the Montezuma Rimrock Fire Station.  The final date for collection has not yet been set, but will happen soon.  The trees are placed in a wash to help prevent erosion.

Other local special events this month are the MLK Day of Service at Montezuma Well, Meet the Press at the Beaver Creek School Board Room and the annual Beaver Creek Community Association meeting.  The monthly food bank distribution is at Beaver Creek School this Saturday.  The next week and a half are packed with meetings and activities.  Please look either at the listings below are at the online calendar for detailed information and contacts.

Enjoying the mild January weather,
