Beaver Creek eNews

February  3, 2016

Dear Neighbors
No major problems were reported after the wind, rain and a little snow on Monday.  The rest of the week is expected to be cold and mostly sunny with a forecast of the mid 60's next weekend.  Perfect for hikes, BBQ's, day trips, and visiting neighbors.  The creeks are up and running fast with some snow melt.  Yesterday Kimberly's way was still uncrossable over Dry Beaver Creek from Cornville Rd and Lower McGuireville is still isolated due to water rushing over both bridges.  So those folks continue to be cut off from work, school, and errands.

Last week was the Walk Out Ceremony for Bonnie Reay who has been with the Montezuma Rimrock Fire District since before it was a district.  She started as a volunteer and retired as a long time First Responder.  If you missed the ceremony, here are pictures of Bonnie and of her with her family.  She continues to be active in the community.  In fact she's giving a First Aid/CPR class at the station on Saturday, Feb 13 starting at 9 AM with First Aid and with CPR starting around 1 PM.  The cost is $35 which includes the book or $25 if you can bring your own book.  Call 928-300-9936 to register.

Continuing about MRFD, due to the efforts of Chief Terry Keller with the support of LMPOA sponsored meetings and petitions, 20 more fire hydrants are now being installed along part of Beaver Creek Rd and to complete coverage in areas of Lake Montezuma.  The Chief only had to mention the petitions which encouraged AZ Water to step up the process.  The funding was provided by a bequest from Eddie Lodge.  Arizona Water approved the plan and hired the contractor to do the work on the system.  Thank you to those who signed the petitions.

Brenda Nicolson's new store at the old Honey Store opened on Monday.  It is now called the Honey Hole and features local arts and crafts.  If you have items to sell, space is available to rent for your display.  U-Haul rentals and sale of U-Haul supplies will be available at the shop.  Since there was no Commercial 2 zoning (required for sale or rental of vehicles) available in the vicinity of her Doggy Styles shop, Yavapai County granted her a Use Permit to operate at the Honey Store.  The rental equipment must be displayed behind it.

Free tax preparation for those with low and middle incomes started yesterday in the Camp Verde and Cottonwood Senior Centers.  Although sponsored by AARP, assistance is available to all ages.  The information is below.  This Saturday the Beaver Creek Girl Scouts will be back at the Rimrock Resale Shop selling their popular cookies.  The annual Kiwanis Chili & Pie Dinner is back at the fire station a week from Thursday.  The pie is supplied by Cricket's.  There are 6 scheduled hikes this month sponsored by the Beaver Creek Trails Coalition and 2 bird walks scheduled by NPS at Montezuma Well.  The February free and low cost food schedule is below.  On the 13th food will be distributed at the food bank located at Beaver Creek School.  And don't forget to read about the new book project explained below by Judy McBride.

Free Dump Days have been scheduled again this year by Yavapai County at the Camp Verde Transfer Station (from I-17, turn east on HWY 260 and travel 7 miles) on March 17th, 18th, 19th, 24th, 25th, 26th 31st & April 1st and 2nd from 8 AM to 4 PM
