Dear Neighbors
Betty Hart & Audrey Erb

Last Friday, March 10, was especially noteworthy for Creekers.  The plaque for National Historic Registry was unveiled on the Beaver Creek Rock School located on the current school campus.  The presentation was introduced by President Judy McBride of the Beaver Creek Preservation & Historical Society (BCPHS) which sponsored the application for registry.  Member Audrey Erb who completed the application over the course of three painstaking years was honored for her outstanding contribution to the community.  She and school board member, Betty Hart, unveiled the plaque.  In addition to members of
Judy McBride & Tom Thurman
BCPHS, several long-time teachers, staff and residents; Supervisor Tom Thurman; and a large group of current students shared in the event.  POBs (pats on back) to everyone who made this happen.  If you missed out, BCPHS docents will open the Rock School from 10 AM to 1 PM for display to the public on April 8, 15 and 22.

Next weekend there is a special opportunity for community participation with the Coconino National Forest Red Rock Ranger District.  Forest Service hydrologist Amina Sena will be leading our efforts to stabilize soils and plant vegetation for this delicate biologic resource.  They are looking for 10 to 20 volunteers to help with this effort.  Please read the attached flyer information below and consider joining the effort to restore Deer Run Springs which is located near the Golden Gulch Trail access on Wickiup Mesa.

Please note that the Trek for Tech event is this Saturday.  Check in is at 7:30.  Payment and registration may be made online or that day.  The FREE dump days begin on the 23rd.  On Saturday, the 25th, is the Deer Run Springs restoration project and the Sedona Sky Academy tour.  Information about these events is below.  Coming up in April are two performances by the Culpepper & Merriweather Circus at Beaver Creek School on the 20th.  Tickets are on sale starting this week.  The specifics are in the flyer below.

Also, below are the latest news releases from our fire districts.

On Saturday March 11
th at 13:30pm Copper Canyon Fire and Medical Authority emergency crews from St 81 and St 82, along with YCSO Search and Rescue and Verde Valley Swift Water Teams were dispatched to a swift water rescue at Cocktail Trail and the Verde River. Initial reports stated that there were three victims that were stranded in the Verde River from a kayak that had capsized. Emergency crews arrived on scene to find there were two victims that required rescue from the river and a third member of the party that was not in need of rescue and had just boated to the river's edge awaiting the rest of the party that had capsized. One of the two victims had self-extricated from the river to a small island and was uninjured. This victim was assisted with the help of swift water rescue team over a small walking bridge to the main shore line without incident. The last victim was stranded in her kayak in the middle of the river and was unable to self-rescue or get out of the kayak due to swift currents and rapids. At this time this victim was not injured. A team of highly qualified rescuers from the CCFMA and YCSO SAR teams along with support activities from Verde Valley Fire District and YCSO SAR, were able to employ a rescue technique known as a wedge walk to gain access to this victim. The victim was extricated from her kayak and then extricated from the river to safety without further incident. None of the victims or rescuers were injured during the incident. The victims kayak was also retrieved from the river. CCFMA would like to take this opportunity to express thanks to the Verde Valley Fire District and YCSO SAR for their assistance and expertise in the rescue of these two victims.
