Beaver Creek eNews

March 7, 2017

Dear Neighbors

We're moving into some beautiful March weather with highs in the 70's.  Can't believe the Beaver Creek area has had just under 6 inches of rainfall so far this year.  Amazing after several drought years!  For newcomers who hadn't really seen the creeks run high, it was a bit of a shock.  Locally the creeks were a normal high for a wet monsoon.  Elsewhere in Yavapai County some folks weren't quite so lucky and experienced flooding.  If you live close to a potential flood area, it makes sense to be prepared at all times.

This year there have been two deaths on roadways that have been noted in the community for at least 40 years as needing improvement.  Justin Hill died when his vehicle ran off FR-119 (the road past Montezuma Well) and Bob Kind died attempting to cross the creek bridge to go home to Lower McGuireville.  Verde Valley transportation planning and studies have consistently recommended improvement to FR-119 for those 40 years.  The Beaver Creek community has noted the health and safety issue in accessing Lower McGuireville for many years also.  As a good way to respect and remember the loss of the lives of these two men, please write Supervisor Thurman at [email protected] to request action on these community safety issues.

On another note, this Friday at 10 AM at Beaver Creek School, the plaque for the National Register of Historic Places will be dedicated for the 1932 Rock School on the campus.  This makes BC School one of only 3 schools in Arizona to appear in the NRHP.  This is a very special recognition to which all are invited.

Resident Virginia Bartling has interfaced with the circulation department of the Verde Independent about the Smart Shopper litter problem in seeking a resolution.  Please contact Eden at 634-2241 to be added to the NOT DELIVER LIST.  A few calls may be necessary if the papers keep coming.   Also, please as you walk or drive, stop to pick up the papers from unoccupied homes or those where the occupants cannot pick them up.  Add the papers to your recycling pile and call Eden.  Thank you, Virginia!!

There are many special events this month.  The details are below for the National Register dedication, the annual Beaver Creek Preservation & Historical Society meeting, the Trek for Tech Fun Run/Walk, Walk with an Archeologist, FREE Dump Day, and the Sedona Sky Academy Tour.  It's March with a bouquet of activities to enjoy!
