The annual meeting of the Beaver Creek Trails Coalition is this morning at 8:30 AM. If you have the time to attend this morning, you will see two fine slide presentations on the local and Verde Valley trail efforts. Also today is the last meeting until fall of the Lake Montezuma Women's Civic Club. They will be awarding a $1000 scholarship, honoring the Woman of the Year and announcing donation recipients in addition to enjoying time together.
Yavapai County ballots concerning the extension of the jail district sales tax (up to a quarter of a cent) need to be received by 7 PM on May 15. Mailing is not recommended at this late date. The ballots may be dropped off in Camp Verde at the Town Hall or at the Yavapai-Apache Community Center. In Cottonwood, the ballots may be dropped off at the County Annex on 6
th Street. If you can't get either place, please call Beaver Creek Transit to collect your ballot and deliver it for you. The services provided by the jail district need to continue and is an obligation for us all.
This Friday the BC Preservation & Historical Society has a special guest speaker who will tell the story of the former sheep industry in the Verde Valley and throughout Arizona. The new start time for these presentations is 10 AM.
Saturday morning the free food bank distribution starts at BC School at 7:45 AM. Then Dump the Drugs returns to the BC Adult Center from 10 AM to Noon. The marionette show begins in the same location at 2 PM followed by the Mother's Day Pot Luck at 5 PM. We can get rid of unwanted medications, see an entertaining puppet show and celebrate Mother's Day all in one place this year!! It's nice to see this building purchased and operated by volunteers getting such good use.
Also on Saturday the National Association of Letter Carriers is sponsoring the Fill a Bag and Stamp Out Hunger Campaign. Please put non-perishables in the bags and place them by a mailbox. Your donations will go to the food bank at Beaver Creek School. Thank you!

Tuesday, 5/8-The Beaver Creek Trails Coalition Annual Meeting
is from 8:30 AM to 10 AM in the Beaver Creek Adult Center Library. Help us celebrate the BCTC accomplishments of the year as reviewed in a PowerPoint presentation. Guest speaker Adam Barnett, Recreation Staff Officer in the Red Rock Ranger District, has a slide show on volunteer efforts in the district. The supporter of the year award will be presented to David Brown and the volunteer of the year award will be presented to John Barth. Elections, financial report and refreshments, too. Saturday, 512-Dump the Drugs
is back at the Beaver Creek Adult Center from 10 AM to Noon. This event gives an opportunity to safely dispose of unwanted prescription or over-the-counter medication (including ones for pets). Please drop medications off at the Beaver Creek Adult Center (across from Cricket's), 4250 E. Zuni Way in Lake Montezuma. The event is sponsored by the BC Community Action Team, YC Sheriff's Office and MATFORCE.

Saturday, 5/12-Puppets on Strings presented by FantasyMakers Marionettes
starts at 2 PM in the Beaver Creek Adult Center across from Crickets in the Lake Montezuma Village Square. This lively entertainment is sponsored by Joe & Terri Warren, 928-592-0630 and Starr~Light, 928-274-2721. Donations appreciated. Saturday, 5/12--The Beaver Creek Adult Center Mother's Day Pot Luck
begins at 5 PM. Please bring your plate (if you forget, we have paper plates) and utensils, a dish to share, and a friend or two. Make your mother's favorite dish to honor her or in memory of her. Coffee and punch will be served. We will also have a 50/50 drawing. Everyone is welcome to attend. Call 928-567-4556 for more information.

Station from 8 AM to 4 PM, Tuesdays through Saturdays. Acceptable items are brush, branches, grass, leaves, and yard trimmings. No lumber, stumps, roots, cactus, metal, or garbage. Slash must be removed from plastic bags. Located 7 miles east of I-17 on Hwy 260. For additional information, please contact the Yavapai County Public Works Dept at 928-771-3183. The other transfer stations are open different days and times. If you use one of the others, please call first to verify days and times available for drop-off.

Grace Community Lutheran Church from 11 AM to 1 PM
The final meeting of this spring will be a celebration with presentation of our $1000 award to our Scholarship recipient here in BC. The recipient has been invited to the meeting and luncheon.
We will also announce which community organizations will receive donations with money earned from our fundraiser "Tea". The Woman of the Year will be voted on and presented with an award at this meeting.
Lunch will be served at a cost of $13. All community members are welcome. Please join us for a nice meal.

Friday, 5/11--The BC Preservation & Historical Society
meets at 10 AM (new time) in the Beaver Creek Adult Center. Dr. Barbara Jaquay will be the speaker at this meeting and will share stories and information from her book "Where Have All the Sheep Gone" which details the untold story of the sheep industry in Arizona and the Verde Valley

Copper Canyon Fire & Medical at Work
Another Accident on I-17 and more since this one
On May 2, 2018 at approximately 8:30am, Copper Canyon Fire and Medical responded to a reported accident on I-17 SB at milepost 306. Upon arrival crews encountered a 2 vehicle accident. Per DPS units on scene the accident was a head on collision between a passenger car and a pickup. There were single patients in each vehicle and both patients were transported to an area hospital. The exact cause of the accident was unknown and was being investigated by DPS. Units from Copper Canyon Fire were assisted by Pinewood Fire. Inclement weather in the area was a possible cause.

Late March & Early April Good Things at Beaver Creek School
Good Things Happening in Beaver Creek School District!
Beaver Creek School students have begun the state testing process. So far all students have been putting effort into their work and are proud to show the things they have learned.
The 21st Century Learning Community Program planning a field trip to Yavapai College's Sci-Tech event. They are looking forward to developing a deeper understanding of STEAM concepts.
Mrs. Bleak has been taking an extra professional development course on teaching STEAM. She now has an opportunity to share her new knowledge with our 7
th
grade students who see her four times a week for a STEAM class.
Mr. Womack set up water catchment barrels so we can start using rainwater for the onsite garden.
Ms. Nunn has been working with the 21
st
Century kids on Fridays to maintain the garden. She incorporates STEAM activities into her lessons. This class provides in depth hands on learning experiences which help students to understand scientific concepts. The kids love to learn in their gardening class.
The preschool class has also been sprouting seeds and watching their bulbs bloom in the preschool garden.
The Bobcat softball and baseball teams are both working hard at practices and games. The kids are thrilled to be a part of the teams, and parents are enjoying watching as well. The ball fields look great thanks to the maintenance crew!
We will be having the Life and Safety presentation for Pre-k-3 on April 11. Our firefighter and forest service workers get together to put on a puppet show with lights, sounds, and special surprises that help to teach our younger students about being safe. The kids will also get to meet Smokey the Bear.
Teachers are working hard to continue to use the
Capturing Kids Hearts
program to build gratitude among our students through class meetings that discuss all of the topics and continue to keep the lesson working in our classrooms.
The Yavapai County Nurses will continue to audit our students' health records and make sure they are properly immunized.
Ms. Artrip hosted our annual Kindergarten Roundup to welcome children who will be in kindergarten next year. We are excited to have new bobcats join our student body!
Kindergarten and Preschool Registration is on-going in the front office Monday through Friday.
Be looking forward to the Beaver Creek Historical Society completion of the tile project depicting the historical timeline of the area! This project organized by Governing Board member Betty Hart will be found in the courtyard area of the school campus.
