Beaver Creek eNews

June 7, 2017

Dear Neighbors

This is a great week in Beaver Creek!  Today our public library starts a Wednesday weekly program that highlights a different topic each week.  Today is GARDENING.  Fortuitously the BC Preservation & Historical Society guest speaker on Friday is our locally well-known volunteer, Wyona Jaffe, who is sharing her wild flower photos in the Adult Center.  And Friday afternoon the Rimrock Farmers Market opens for the season at Sycamore Park.  All the details are below.

A HUGE thank you is due to the Rimrock mail carriers and clerks who collected food in May and to all those who donated that food.  Those items are now at the Beaver Creek Food Bank waiting to be selected this Saturday at the Beaver Creek School location.  The food bank is open to the public the second Saturday of each month.  More information is in the chart below.

Some clubs and activities are continuing this month.  You can get your blood pressure taken on the second Wednesday of the month and several groups are still meeting.

The Phantasm book club pick we will discuss at the July 15th meeting is "The Forever War" by Joe Haldeman.  Written in the 1970s this book won TWO awards and is credited as being the science fiction book which changed the face of modern science fiction.  Some of the questions the story raises are: how can humanity evolve in thousands of years, what it means to be human, what would a war that took place all over the universe be like, what would it be like to be an "old" human thrust into a "new" human world, what are the effects of time travel, what does it take to survive?   Contact Starchild the Ringleader, [email protected] for more information.
