November 11, 2015

Dear Neighbors
Happy Veteran's Day to veterans and to the families and friends who have been there for them now and throughout the years!  The weather looks good today and for those who are not working it's a chance to get into any National Park without paying a fee.  It's also a good day to take a veteran out for a meal.  The list of participating restaurants is below and there are probably others who do not advertise nationally that would be glad to serve those who have served.  A free lunch is also available at noon at Post 93 in Camp Verde especially for those who would like to see the fine uniform display.

Throughout November Montezuma Castle and Tuzigoot are commemorating Native American Heritage Month with indigenous arts, crafts and cultural events.  Some are highlighted in the special events list and the rest are in the flyer below.

Locally the annual food collection drive has begun to help stock the food bank at Beaver Creek School.  Non-perishables may be left at Rask's Auto Service or at the Montezuma Rimrock Fire decorated_turkey.jpg Station to be transported by Beaver Creek Transit. The Beaver Creek School Holiday Meat Drive has also begun.   Beaver Creek School is accepting donations of turkeys and hams to distribute during the next two food distributions at the school. Please drop off your donation at the school during business hours Monday through Friday from 7 AM to 4 PM. Thank you for your support in helping community members have a better holiday season.  Contact Karin Ward at Beaver Creek School for more information- 928-567-4631 or 928 713-0484.

Yavapai County Public Works will have a front-end loader at the County Annex in Cottonwood, 10 S 6th St, on Wednesday, 11/18.  At 4 PM a truck from the Old Town Mission will pick up the collected food.

On Thanksgiving Day at 2 PM the Grace Community Lutheran Church is inviting anyone who would like to attend to come eat a free dinner and visit with old and new friends.  Beaver Creek School will be providing free food this Saturday as usual from 7:45 AM to 9 AM.

There has been another episode in the continuing Rimrock Bee Saga.  Resident Dorcas Gerace returned home from an extended RV trip to find a large hive of bees that Pastor Ken Miller removed on 11/2.  He returned on 11/4 to collect a large amount from her office.  She keeps after the stragglers with her vacuum and has now sealed their probable entrance.  Dorcas warns you to keep a look out for a swarm of angry bees who have lost their queen.

On Sunday is a fine opportunity to tour the Rimrock Ranch House owned by former Beaver Creek School principal Judy McBride and to see the old Rock School.  Ticket and parking information is in the flyer below.  The following Saturday is the road cleanup sponsored by FOTW and the free dental screening for seniors at the Beaver Creek Adult Center.  Pre-screen information forms are available at the Center for completion by participants who would like to save a little time during the visit.  Denture wearers are welcomed at the screening.

The Kiwanis Christmas House will open next to Nikki's Grill in early December in order to raise funds for Christmas Adopt-a Family.  Donations of crafts, decorations, tableware, clothing and other holiday items may be dropped off at the Kiwanis Clothes Closet.

See you in the neighborhood,
