Out on a Whimsey announces their move to the space formerly occupied by Blake and Hazard at the corner of Main and High.
Dear Friends,

If you're disoriented by empty storefronts and wondering what mysteries are concealed by the plastic tarps at the Freemason building downtown, you're not alone.  It seems that Belfast storeowners are reorganizing downtown in a grand spring-cleaning effort this year. Don't fret! We're here to keep you updated on all of the changes, and let you know where you can find your favorite Belfast shop.

Out on a Whimsy announced their move to the corner of Main and High Streets  this past weekend. This little move only a few storefronts over signals a big expansion for Belfast's beloved toy store (one that will almost double the store's current footprint). We look forward to seeing our new corner store become a downtown cornerstone.

Heavenly Socks yarn shop (soon to be known as Heavenly Yarns) will be leaving its nearby basement location and filling the vacancy left by the toy store at the end of the block. Owner, Helen Sahadi, assures customers that, aside from more elbow room,  nothing they've come to love about the store's variety and affordability will change.  Permanent Expressions tattoo parlor (formerly located next to the yarn shop) has already found a new home above Alexia's pizza. They've settled in by making dramatic renovations to the second floor space. Drop-ins are welcome!  Bellabooks is currently renovating the space at 33 Pendleton Lane (next to Cold Mountain Builders). Owners, Gary and Kim, hope to open up shop sometime this spring.

On High Street, The Sail Locker is gearing up for their move onto lower Main at the space formerly occupied by Rachel de Long and adjacent to Epoch. Alder and Vine will, in turn, be filling the Sail Locker's vacancy, and moving into the basement space on High Street.  In the midst of all this shuffle, some shops will unfortunately be closing.  Our Town Belfast would like to thank owners Todd Hall and Chase Bowles-Hall of Epoch , as well as, Rachel De Long for their contributions to our vibrant downtown. We wish you all the best of luck in your next endeavors.

If you are interested in owning Belfast business, The Chocolate Drop Candy Shop is currently for sale. This treasured downtown business is turnkey and ready for you to jump behind the counter. C ontact Dave Crabiel at [email protected] with your serious inquiries. With the changing of the seasons comes the changing of the storefronts. Congratulations to all of our busy storeowners on their moves, expansions, and renovations!

Happy shopping!

The City of Belfast, the Belfast Area Chamber of Commerce, the Belfast Creative Coalition, the Maine Department of Labor at the Rockland CareerCenter, Our Town Belfast, the University of Maine Hutchinson Center, and Workforce Solutions will be holding the
2018 Belfast Regional Job Fair on Tuesday, March 20th, 2018, from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm, at the University of Maine Hutchinson Center in Belfast.

This is the second year for the Belfast Regional Job Fair. Last year's event saw approximately 40 employers and 450 job seekers participate. "We expect to surpass both of those numbers at this year's fair," according to Belfast Economic Development Director Thomas Kittredge.  "This year's job fair will be starting an hour earlier, at 9:00 am instead of 10:00 am, to better accommodate job seekers, and we fully expect that all 50 employer spots for the fair will be occupied."

Additionally, groups such as the  Maine Department of Labor at the Rockland CareerCenter and Workforce Solutions will be onsite to provide information to job seekers about upcoming interview readiness coaching, job training opportunities, and job placement assistance resources.
