Ben's Buzz

Dear BFCCPS Community,

Thank you once again for your kindness, thoughtfulness and generosity you displayed during the last few weeks supporting, contributing to, and volunteering your time for our Santa Foundation Community Service project! Thanks to the BFCCPS Community, four truckloads of gifts were delivered to the Santa Foundation.  It was truly a remarkable sight to behold!

Congratulations to all of our students in Grades Five through Eight on last week's Social Studies Fair. We learned about world explorers in grade five, took a journey around with world with sixth grade, seventh grade students shared models of ancient artifacts, and students in grade eight shared their research about the Renaissance, the Crusades and facts about the Black Death.  We invite you to view photos from the event here online.

The BFCCPS Lost and Found is overflowing. Please be sure to stop by to look for lost belongings!

Don't forget that Friday, December 22nd is an Early Release. Students will be dismissed at noon.  We wish you all a happy and safe winter break. We will see you in the New Year!  School resumes on Tuesday January 2nd, 2018.

Enrollment for the 2018-2019 school year is now open!  If you have a sibling eligible for Kindergarten or looking to join us in Grades 1-8 please be sure to complete an application!

We hope you will also tell family, friends and neighbors with children eligible for Grades Kindergarten and Eight about your experiences at BFCCPS and encourage them to apply!  After all, word of mouth is the very best form of advertisement!

Applications can be  filled out online and hard copies are also available in the front office.  All applications must be received before February 28th by 4pm. Late applications will not be accepted. Please contact  Mrs. Basile with any enrollment related questions.

Family Fun Day at Wachusett:

Join us for a family fun day at Mount Wachusett on February 3. We will meet at the mountain at 8:00 am and spend the day skiing or riding. The price for adult tickets (age 13-64) is $54 and children (ages 6-12) is $42. If you are interested in attending please complete this form and send in your check payable to BFCCPS to the attention ofKelly Kovacs by January 12.

Please note this is not a drop off activity, a parent must accompany their children at Wachusett. BFCCPS will not be offering chaperone services for the event. A minimum of 15 tickets are required to have this event run. If we are not able to meet the minimum, we will sadly have to cancel the activity.

Health Office Reminders:

The goal of supporting every student's ability to benefit from classroom education is best met when students are healthiest and classroom time is maximized. In an effort to reduce the spread of illnesses and provide time for students to return to a healthy learning environment, please follow the guidelines for keeping a sick child home from school.

1. The child should be fever-free for 24 hours without the aid of a fever reducing medication, such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen. Any temperature 100.0 degrees F or greater is considered a fever.

2. The child should be free of vomiting/diarrhea for 24 hours before returning to school. A child who has been ill during the night may feel slightly better in the morning and even ask to go to school. However, the child will likely experience symptoms of illness later, will be tired from loss of sleep, and will still be contagious to other children.

3. The child diagnosed with strep throat/scarlet fever should remain home for the first 24 hours of antibiotic treatment. A child remains contagious until he/she has been on antibiotics for 24 hours.

4. The child diagnosed with bacterial conjunctivitis should remain home for the first 24 hours of treatment and until there is no more drainage from the eyes.

5. Consider keeping a child with thick or constant nasal discharge at home. Very few younger children can effectively blow their noses and wash their hands afterwards. A child with the above symptoms may quickly spread the illness to other children.

To report an absence, please call (508) 541-3434 x. 100.

Please feel free to contact the nurses, Jenny Auerr and Diane Williams, in the Health Office via phone at (508) 528-1945 or via email at  nurse@bfccps.org .

Please note: banking will not be held on 12/21. Banking will resume in 2018!
