Dear BFCCPS Community,

I hope you've had a chance to review our very exciting expansion announcement from last week.  We are absolutely thrilled to move into the next part of the process and look forward to sharing this adventure with all of you!

A friendly reminder to all parents that the four parking spots just in front of the brick wall belong to the Religious Education Department. These spots are clearly marked and are not for parent and/or staff use at any time. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

The BFCCPS Lost and Found is overflowing. Please be sure to stop by to look for lost belongings! Any items that have not picked up before the February Break will be donated.

Orders will be accepted through January 25th.
Spelling Bee:

For the 9th year BFCCPS will be holding a Spelling Bee. The purpose of the National Spelling Bee program is stated as "to help students improve their spelling, increase their vocabularies, learn concepts, and develop correct English usage that will help them all their lives."

This year, all of the words from the 2018 School Spelling Bee Study List will be taken from engaging, grade-appropriate books, allowing your students to get to know these words in the context of great stories. In offering this opportunity to BFCCPS students we aim to provide an educational and fun opportunity for students looking for an academic challenge.

This activity is open to all students in Grades 4-8 but a pre-participation registration is required. Please see this post for more details.

A PCO sponsored Arts Enrichment assembly has been re-scheduled for Thursday, February 8th.  Sheryl Faye Presents Historical Women will be presenting Sally Ride to grades 5-8 at 9:20 and grades K-4 at 10:20. ALL are encouraged and welcome to attend the presentation in the O'Malley Auditorium.   For more info please see:

This program has applied for support by a grant from the Franklin Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.

Health Office Update:

Cold and flu season is here! Please read the  flu guide for parents.

Cough drops in school: Please remember that cough drops, per the state regulations for schools, are considered an over the counter medication that requires doctor's order and parent permission on file and for them to be administered by the school nurse.  This is why we now have added cough drops to the list of items parents can give written permission for, along with acetaminophen (Tylenol) and ibuprofen (Motrin), and that the Health Office stocks.  Our school physician provides the order for these over-the-counter medications.  When parent's permission is provided cough drops can be given every 2 hours.

There are several reasons why this makes for best practice in a school, including some coughs may need further assessment for potential asthma-related causes and, realizing these public-health focused regulations are to keep everyone in all communities at all ages safe, it prevents a student from carrying in school and taking something that may not really be a cough drop.

If you have not already given permission for cough drops, the form can be printed  here or found on the  Health Office website under the tab "medication administration". Any completed form should be sent in to the Health Office.

Please contact your School Nurses, Jenny Auerr or Diane Williams for any questions at  nurse@bfccps.org.
A Notice from the Central Office:

Visitors:   All visitors to the school are required to sign in at the Front Office and wear a Visitor's badge. Visitors must be escorted at all times.  Thank you for your help with this!

Parking & Parking Lot Safety:  Parking is not allowed in marked reserved spots near the schools main entrance. These spots are reserved for the CCD program staff.

Arrival and Dismissal Procedures:  Please adhere to the posted arrival and dismissal procedures which are posted  here  our website. If you plan on parking on Queen Street to pick up your children, you must park and walk into the courtyard to pick them up. Students may not walk across the playground to Queen Street regardless of their grade level. This is for their own personal safety.

Absence and Dismissal Notification: If your child will be absent or tardy from school, Please contact Mrs. Tappin at  ltappin@bfccps.org or at  leave a voice message at the absent and tardy line 508-541-3434 and press 4.  Additionally, if you have to make any dismissal changes please email both your child(ren)'s homeroom teacher AND Mrs. Laura Tappin by email at  ltappin@bfccps.org by no later than 2 pm.

As a reminder, BFCCPS has an  extended absence policy which indicates that extended absences for non-medical reasons for more than 10 consecutive school days will not be approved and will result in dis-enrollment from BFCCPS unless caused by exceptional and unavoidable circumstances, such as a natural disaster, serious accident, or other situation deemed exceptional and unavoidable by the HOS.

Cold weather has arrived!  Please be sure to send your students daily with seasonally appropriateouterwear. We will continue to have outdoor courtyard, recess and dismissal whenever possible.
