Dear BFCCPS Community,

This year's Capstone presentations will take place on Thursday January 25th and Friday January 26th from 9:00 to 11:30 am. Our Grade Eight students have been hard at work putting the final touches on their presentations. This year, we will have three special guests in attendance.  Patrick Casey and Eamon McCarthy Earls are BFCCPS Alumni and also the newest members of the Franklin Town Council. Eamon will address the community on Thursday and Patrick will address the community on Friday morning.  Representative Jeffrey Roy will also join us for  presentations on Friday morning; he is a long time friend of the school. If your schedule permits, I hope you will consider joining us for the presentations.

Please take a moment to view this ABC News Report about an online challenge that dares children and teens to "taste" laundry packets. This is the next iteration in a long list of dangerous challenges issued online.  Any BFCCPS Parents who haven't read our first Pillar in Action Newsletter regarding Internet Safety might consider giving it a quick read for a variety of information to help keep your children safe on the Internet.

Enjoy the rest of your week,

Announcements:

BFCCPS is participating in National School Choice Week from January 22nd through January 26th. We thank all of you for your ongoing support of school choice in education by sending your children to us here at BFCCPS!

Please join us for a Jeans Day on February 2nd, to benefit the Jimmy Fund.  Throughout the week we will be creating  Hearts for Hudson.  We encourage all BFCCPS students to provide a little encouragement for Hudson and his family by making a little valentine card with well wishes, drawings and perhaps even some Valentine riddles. You can send your completed valentines to Mrs. O'Brien in 2W and she will collect them for Hudson.

The Fine and Performing Arts Department encourages all students to show their support for the school musical with a t-shirt.  Click to download the order form.   Orders will be accepted through January 25th.

Spelling Bee:

For the 9th year BFCCPS will be holding a Spelling Bee. The purpose of the National Spelling Bee program is stated as "to help students improve their spelling, increase their vocabularies, learn concepts, and develop correct English usage that will help them all their lives."

This year, all of the words from the 2018 School Spelling Bee Study List will be taken from engaging, grade-appropriate books, allowing your students to get to know these words in the context of great stories. In offering this opportunity to BFCCPS students we aim to provide an educational and fun opportunity for students looking for an academic challenge.

This activity is open to all students in Grades 4-8 but a pre-participation registration is required. Please see this post for more details.

Health Office Update:

Cold and flu season is here! Please read the  flu guide for parents.

Cough drops in school: Please remember that cough drops, per the state regulations for schools, are considered an over the counter medication that requires doctor's order and parent permission on file and for them to be administered by the school nurse.  If you have not already given permission for cough drops, the form can be printed  here  or found on the  Health Office website  under the tab "medication administration". Any completed form should be sent in to the Health Office.

Please contact your School Nurses, Jenny Auerr or Diane Williams for any questions at  nurse@bfccps.org.
A Notice from the Central Office:

Visitors:   All visitors to the school are required to sign in at the Front Office and wear a Visitor's badge. Visitors must be escorted at all times.  Thank you for your help with this!

Parking & Parking Lot Safety: Parking is not allowed in marked reserved spots near the schools main entrance. These spots are reserved for the CCD program staff.

Arrival and Dismissal Procedures:  Please adhere to the posted arrival and dismissal procedures which are posted  here our website.

Over the winter months, we ask that you do not park on Queen Street to walk in and pick up your children. The Queen Street entrance can be narrow at this time of year due to accumulated snow and or ice making this practice potentially unsafe for both drivers and walkers.  We ask that you please utilize the Express Lane procedures or arrive at Courtyard Dismissal (approximately 3:20) to secure a spot to park in the lot once the general traffic has cleared.

Absence and Dismissal Notification: If your child will be absent or tardy from school, Please contact Mrs. Tappin at  ltappin@bfccps.org or at  leave a voice message at the absent and tardy line 508-541-3434 and press 4.  Additionally, if you have to make any dismissal changes please email both your child(ren)'s homeroom teacher AND Mrs. Laura Tappin by email at  ltappin@bfccps.org by no later than 2 pm.

As a reminder, BFCCPS has an  extended absence policy which indicates that extended absences for non-medical reasons for more than 10 consecutive school days will not be approved and will result in dis-enrollment from BFCCPS unless caused by exceptional and unavoidable circumstances, such as a natural disaster, serious accident, or other situation deemed exceptional and unavoidable by the HOS.

Cold weather has arrived!  Please be sure to send your students daily with seasonally appropriateouterwear. We will continue to have outdoor courtyard, recess and dismissal whenever possible.
