Dear BFCCPS Community, 

This is such an exciting (and very busy) time of year. We have field trips, assemblies and exciting events taking place nearly every day for the rest of the year!  We love to have parents here as often as possible yet we have a small parking lot, and we recognize that it can be difficult to find parking at times. However, please note that parking is not allowed in the marked "reserved" spots near the school's main entrance. These spots are reserved for the CCD program staff and should not be used by BFCCPS parents, faculty or staff at any time. Thank you in advance for your cooperation!  

As a reminder, Wednesday May 16th is an early release at noon.  


With the end of the school year approaching, we will be working to place students for their classes next year.  There are many factors we consider when placing students in their classes for next year.  The current grade level team works closely with our school counselor, school psychologist, special education staff, and school administration to place students with a classroom teacher that they feel will best fit their educational, social and emotional needs.  We very much value parental input into the learning style they feel works best for their students, however, with only two teachers at each grade level, it is not possible for us to consider parent requests for specific teachers

If you would like the placement teams to consider specific learning needs of your child, or specific qualities you feel best support your child in the classroom, please forward these descriptions to me at hzolnowski@bfccps.org. Specific teacher requests made directly to teachers can not be honored.  All matters surrounding class placements for next year must be sent to the Head of School no later than Thursday, May 18th.

Moving forward please be sure to read the Buzz each week so you can be aware of the activities that are happening.

Announcements: 
 
Softball Skills:   Students in Grades 6-8 are invited to a Softball Skills Practice that will take place on Friday afternoons.  A  registration packet  as well as a physical exam dated within 13 months of the start of the activity will be required for all participants. The group will meet 5/11, 5/18, 5/25 and 6/1.  

The Student Council is hosting the annual Light Up the Night Dance for Puerto Rico and to help raise funds to build a new Buddy Bench. The activities at the dance will include several Breakout rooms and a Gaga Ball arena. Activities will be held on May 18th from 6 to 8:30 pm.

Fine and Performing Arts:  

You will find all the details of the 2018  Fine  and  Performing  Arts Week in this recent special edition of Ben's Buzz.  

You will find information about both of the upcoming Spring Concerts, our Annual Art Show, the Memorial Day Parade and much more.  Please be sure to review the upcoming dates and mark your calendars accordingly.

Attending the Recorder and Band Concert on May 29th? Why not stop by FroYo World afterwards for a well deserved treat?  A percentage of all proceeds will benefit the PCO! 

We will also hold an Whole School Concert and the Closing Ceremony for our All School Community Service Project on the town common on June 12th from 10:20 to 11:30.  Parents are invited to join us!

BFCCPS Expansion: 

We are kicking off the first fundraiser for the BFCCPS Expansion!  We will be holding a Community Yard Sale and Vendor Fair on June 2nd.   

Less than twenty booths remain at this time, please invite your friends and favorite local vendors to participate by reserving a space  here!  

The event will include a Bake Sale to generate additional money for the gymnasium and playgrounds.  If you'd like to provide treats or coffee for the bake sale, or work a shift at the bake sale table please sign up here.



The Benjamin Franklin Educational Foundation is holding a 50/50 Raffle in conjunction with the Yard  Sale. We invite you to buy raffle tickets and sell raffle tickets too!  The more tickets we sell, the more money we raise for the gymnasium and playgrounds - AND the more money we raise, the higher the prize package.  50% of the ticket sales will go to one lucky winner.  Tickets on sale now in the front office through the end of day on June 2nd - the drawing takes place on June 11th!



PCO Spring Book Fair:

Mark your calendars! The BFCCPS PCO Spring Book Fair is coming Tuesday May 22nd - Wednesday the 23rd. All classrooms will have an opportunity to visit the fair and parents are invited to attend. It's a great chance to get a jump start on summer reading books! There are also extended hours on Tuesday the 22nd until 5:00 pm for your convenience. Cash, checks and credit cards are accepted and proceed go to the PCO!

FroYo Dine Out Night:

Warmer weather has finally arrived!  Cool off with some delicious frozen yogurt at Fro-Yo World in Support of the BFCCPS PCO.  Stop in to the Franklin location between 3pm and 9 pm on Tuesday, May 29th.
Attending the Spring Concert at BFCCPS?  Stop by afterwards for a well deserved treat! We look forward to seeing you there!

Capstone Corner: 
Lilly E in Grade seven hosted an event called "Power Over the Teachers" for her Capstone Project. Students donated money into collection jars at lunch; and seven teachers volunteered to dye their hair green. As part of this competition any teacher that has $40 in their collection jar will have to dye their hair for a day, the teacher with the highest amount of money in their jar at the end of the competition will have to dye their hair for a week. The fundraising will support the National Eating Disorder Association.  Many thanks to Coach Burke, Mrs. Kovacs and Mr. Heater for being such good sports! 

Tyler A from Grade Seven is hosting a Teal Shirt Day on May 18th to support allergy awareness.  He encourages all students to wear teal shirts on this day. The event is free.

My name is Addison H., I am in 7th grade, and for my capstone project my focus is literacy, or rather the lack of it. I am holding a book drive  and have put two boxes in my school, one in front of the school library and one in the modular. All your child has to do is donate books by putting them into the boxes. I will be accepting books that any age of 5-11 would read. The books can be new or gently used. The deadline for collection is this Friday May 18th.

May 21- June 1st. The most needed items are shampoo, conditioner, body wash, deodorant, tooth brushes, tooth paste and hand soap.  

Aidan D. is holding a  Food Drive as part of his Capstone Project to benefit the Daniel's Table organization. Donations will be accepted from Mon. May 21st to Fri. June 1st. Requested items include: 
canned meat, canned tunafish or salmon, canned tomatoes, whole wheat pasta, olive oil, brown rice, beans and oatmeal, granola bars and popcorn. 

Pratham P. is holding a  Basketball Tournament  on May 25th from 5 - 8 pm for students in grades 6-8. 

Grade Seven student Daniel H will host a  movie night  showing The Sandlot on June 1st from 6 - 8 pm.  Please note that parent supervision required for children in Grades K-5.  Students in Grades 6-8 can attend on their own.  Tickets will be available for $2 each, a raffle will be held and Frisbees will be sold.  Daniel's project will benefit  The Stuttering Foundation In accordance with the BFCCPS Health Policies, no food will be permitted during the movie night.

Laps for Labs - Dog Walk   Andrew Nicholson's Capstone: Bring your dog - any breed - to the BFCCPS fields on June 16th anytime between 10:00 am-1:00pm and walk some laps in honor of the Lucky Lab Rescue organization.  This event is free but donations will be accepted for Lucky Lab Rescue.  W alk five laps and earn your canine friend a prize!  Spend some time exercising with your pal and learn about the dogs that are currently up for adoption and how Lucky Lab saves dogs from high kill shelters.   Note: Open to all grades but parents must stay with their student. Dogs must be leashed at all times.   


A Notice from the Central Office: 

Visitors:   All visitors to the school are required to sign in at the Front Office and wear a Visitor's badge. Visitors must be escorted at all times.  Thank you for your help with this!
 
Parking & Parking Lot Safety: Parking is not allowed in marked reserved spots near the schools main entrance. These spots are reserved for the CCD program staff. 

Arrival and Dismissal Procedures:  Please adhere to the posted arrival and dismissal procedures which are posted  here our website.
Absence and Dismissal Notification: If your child will be absent or tardy from school, Please contact Mrs. Tappin at  ltappin@bfccps.org or at  leave a voice message at the absent and tardy line 508-541-3434 and press 4.  Additionally, if you have to make any dismissal changes please email both your child(ren)'s homeroom teacher AND Mrs. Laura Tappin by email at  ltappin@bfccps.org by no later than 2 pm.

As a reminder, BFCCPS has an  extended absence policy which indicates that extended absences for non-medical reasons for more than 10 consecutive school days will not be approved and will result in dis-enrollment from BFCCPS unless caused by exceptional and unavoidable circumstances, such as a natural disaster, serious accident, or other situation deemed exceptional and unavoidable by the HOS.
