Bend Area Habitat
In This Issue

Greetings!

Can you believe it's already August? Are you making the most out of your summer?

Two local businesses are in a very big way. I'm excited to announce that Cascade Sotheby's and Building Solutions have agreed to sponsor 2 homes for 2 amazing families! We are thrilled to have their support this year for the Casner and Mitma families!

The house for the Perez family is quickly becoming a home. We hope you will join us for the Home Dedication on Sept 18. The House That Beer Built for the Doyle's is just about at the framing stage. If you would like to donate to any of our projects, let me know.

Thank you for your ongoing support of Bend Area Habitat for Humanity!

Best,
Robin Cooper Engle
Director of Development
Welcome to the Team!

We
are happy to announce the addition of Anthony Cobian, our new Donations Coordinator, to Bend Area Habitat and the Development Dept! Anthony will focus on partnerships with businesses for donations and discounts of materials and services for the construction of homes and materials for our ReStore.

Anthony grew up in the small town of Lakeview, OR and while getting his B.S. in Human Services, he fought wildfires to pay his way through school. He loves the great outdoors especially hunting, fishing, and motorcycles. He identifies as a dog person and loves challenges and trying new things. We know he's a great fit for Bend Area Habitat! Welcome Anthony!
Construction News:

Our regular and community group volunteers have been braving the mid-summer heat to keep our mission moving forward.  Two houses are being built simultaneously; one in our Merrick neighborhood for the Perez family and one on Woodland Blvd for the Doyle family!

The Perez home has it's exterior nearly complete, and volunteers are eager to begin finish work once the drywall is hung.  At Woodland (The House that Beer Built) volunteers from local breweries are installing the radiant floor heating system, we should begin raising some walls very soon!

Thanks again to all of the individual volunteers and groups who have made our summer fun and productive!

In Prineville: things are moving along nicely as we have the garage floor poured and are moving on to plumbing and electrical.

Homeowner Services Update

As we shared in last month's newsletter, we are currently in the midst of selecting new Habitat Partner Families. After the difficult task of narrowing down applicants based on financial qualifications, we have scheduled 12 home visits with applicants and their families.

Home visits give us an opportunity to assess the applicant's current housing situation and to get to know them better. This is a very important step in our selection process and we rely on our Homeowner Services Committee and Habitat Staff to complete these visits.

Results from the home visits will be shared at our August Committee Meeting where we will again have the difficult task of narrowing down applicants. Based on our projected construction schedule, we will ultimately recommend six families to our Board of Directors for approval.

Whole House Sponsorships!

Two companies recently agreed to sponsor 2 homes that will benefit 2 really great families! Cascade Sotheby's International Realty and Building Solutions, LLC both will make homeownership a reality for the Casner and Mitma families! We are looking forward to an incredible partnership with both of these generous companies, their employees, clients and vendors.

ReStore News - Di Retires
Di Crocker

It is the end of an era. After 16 great years Di Crocker is Retiring! She will missed but we wish her many blessings in her next life adventures!

Di has been here since the beginning of the ReStore in Bend and we will forever be indebted to her for all she has done to change lives through her tireless efforts at the ReStore.

"From Day One, she had the ability to work with almost anybody," recalls Chuck Tucker, then-executive director of Bend Area Habitat, "and then make them feel appreciated, to make the customer feel appreciated, to come up with ideas to move things. Her longtime foresight to keep things on track at the ReStore has been key -- the store very easily could have gone off-track at numerous junctures. She was the constant compass there that kept pulling things back on track and headed in the right direction."

"Di, for us at the store, has been the Mother Hen," Sophie Paez our current ReStore Director of Operations, says, "She's Mother Hen to the ReStore itself. She's gone through so many different phases of leadership -- in terms of executive directors, board members, sometimes maybe a good volunteer or two that are helping her. And sometimes she was on her own, having to work it out, as the store went from a funny little side project to a major fund-raiser."
