A Message from NEEBC President James Sullivan

Principal, Mercer

Welcome to 2017! With the turn of the calendar and the inauguration of a new president, change is certainly in the air. The ACA is changing... we think, but no one really knows which parts or when. Government regulations certainly seem to be abating to some extent in many different areas. If only they could focus on those bothersome 1095C forms. From the healthcare industry side, business mergers that seemed to be moving forward have ceased -- at least for the time being. Rising pharmacy costs remain a concern, companies continue to globalize requiring many benefits professionals to understand the benefits landscape outside the United States, and innovation is exploding in the health and wellness marketplace. The only thing that doesn't seem to be changing is the Patriots dominance, and I think all of us in New England are okay with that. It's a great time to be a benefits professional!

As we move into the spring, NEEBC is embracing the change that is afoot and looking for opportunities to educate and inform our members. Our program slate for the balance of the year will cover a wide range of topics from the shifting sands of the pharmacy market to lifting the load of student loan debt. We will continue to focus on the changes associated with the proposed repeal of the Accountable Care Act and the impact on employer-sponsored healthcare with programs in both the spring and fall. We are increasing our webinar opportunities throughout the year and will highlight timely topics that will help you successfully handle a number of benefits challenges. Our signature Employee Benefits Summit & Trade Show on May 24 features nationally renowned healthcare leader Reed Tuxton, MD, who will focus on riding the winds of change and how to get there, while Bruce Sherman, MD, will explain why high-deductible health plans can increase employers' costs. It promises to be an exciting and informative day and we look forward to seeing you there.

Finally, one of our steadfast commitments to our members is the ability to network and meet peers in the industry. We all benefit by meeting and interacting with diverse benefits colleagues in the New England marketplace. To support this commitment NEEBC offers a variety of programs to allow you to meet and mingle. For our younger benefits professionals, we offer our Next Generation programming, which focuses on issues that are topical to millennials followed by a social hour. Our summer golf tournament is a great opportunity to see colleagues and develop new relationships. On August 1, we'll be Swinging for Scholarships - our annual event will now raise funds for the NEEBC Scholarship Program. We hope to see all of you there and look forward to the opportunity to help you meet other professionals in the benefits field.

Thank you again for your continued involvement with NEEBC. We look forward to seeing you at our programs throughout the year.
