What Was Big and What to Expect

Accounting, Audit and Advisory Services in the Non-Profit Sector

Not-for-Profit Organizations (NPOs) play a vital role in Canada, enhancing communities and providing support to several areas of activities.

These organizations are vastly different from traditional businesses, especially in respect to their accounting and taxation needs. For that reason, having an accountant that thoroughly understands the requirements for NPOs and Registered Charities is key to ensure financial stability and compliance in the sector.

To Act or React? - That is the question

Managing HR risks can be difficult business. One reason might be because it's hard for employers to forecast the linkage between corporate inaction and financial consequences.

Either the elapsed time in between is too long or positive outcomes are not as obvious. This seems to be the case for workplace compliance.

Look forward and have a plan >
pillarsPillars of the Community

Rad Grad, the annual SKETCH celebration of youth leadership, growth and transformation in the arts, takes place on Thursday, June 15 from 5-8PM in the SKETCH Lower Level Studios at 180 Shaw St (inside Artscape Youngplace). Going into it's fifth year, Rad Grad also serves as the graduation ceremony for our five youth Community Artists (affectionately known as CAs) from our Community Artist Leadership Program.

The program is a one year, paid position that takes in young people from all art disciplines who are impacted by poverty, homelessness, and marginalization but demonstrate a passion for community organizing in the arts and building their artistic practice. This year's showcase will also feature work in visual arts, movement, spoken word, music and media arts created during our Spring Season.

To learn more about our impact, please visit us at sketch.ca. We hope to see you at Rad Grad on June 15!

Government of Canada suspends lawsuit provision in anti-spam legislation
The Government of Canada is suspending the implementation of certain provisions in Canada's anti-spam legislation (CASL) in response to broad-based concerns raised by businesses, charities and the not-for-profit sector.

The provisions, known as private right of action, would have allowed lawsuits to be filed against individuals and organizations for alleged violations of the legislation. The provisions were scheduled to come into force on July 1, 2017, but have now been suspended.
