Parashat Yitro
Candle Lighting 5:43 p.m.
Havdalah 6:51 p.m.
Our high school students had a fantastic time competing in color war games and enjoyed a weekend bonding experience at Camp Young Judea last week. We hope you enjoy the following videos they created on behalf of their teams. Thank you to Rafi and Stacey Engelhart for coordinating the amazing activities and trip.
Ultimate Parsha
This week's parsha, Yitro, contains a concept that confused me for a very long time--the idea that Hashem "visits the sin of fathers upon children to the third and fourth generations." Surely I am not responsible for my father's sins, and my children are not responsible for my sins! Instead the sages suggest that the real issue is children adopting the sinful choices of their parents, repeating them and passing them along to the next generation to the point where this sin is now the  culture  of this family. In this case it is incumbent upon a knowledgeable child to break this trend.

Tu Bi'Shvat Art

Students in Morah Roza's 2nd grade class prepared beautiful Tu Bi'Shvat art this week. They were first tasked with collecting various artifacts from outdoors prior to painting and assembling their masterpieces. While in class, they learned all about trees and their different parts, as well as all the different things that trees provide us.
Chag La'ilanot (Trees)

Bnot Sherut Shira and Osi prepared a fun activity for all the lower school students in honor of Tu Bi'Shvat this week. Students created their own planters and ate various dried fruits from Israel in celebration of the festival of trees. Click here to view more pictures.
Marshmallow Launch

In an exciting classroom activity last week, 8th grade students examined the relationship between force and distance while launching marshmallows with balloon launchers. They measured force with Newton scales and used four different forces to launch the marshmallows. They then measured the distance the marshmallows traveled. The students ran multiple trials for each force applied, then had to analyze and graph the data.
