Shabbat HaChodesh- Parashat Vayakhel-Pekudei
Shabbat Candle Lighting 7:18 p.m.
Havdalah 8:26 p.m.

Our first annual Yom Chesed took place on Sunday in honor and in memory of Rabbi Joseph Randinsky z"l. Over 170 people came out to volunteer for a community service day. Care packages were made for oncology patients, sandwiches for shelter, cookies were delivered to firehouses, volunteers cleaned up the cemetery, and others went to visit the elderly. A big thank you to Rabbi Aaron Levitt for organizing and coordinating the event. We hope you enjoy this slideshow from a very special and meaningful day.
The Verdict Is In

This past weekend, March 16th-19th, a team of RMBA students competed in Moot Beit Din. This competition was put on by Prizmah: Center for Jewish Day Schools, and was held right here in Houston! Students Sigal Melnik, Maya Wadler, Akiva Levy, and Dan Melnik, with advisor Rabbi Asher Block, studied halacha (Jewish law) and then presented their research to a panel of judges. They had to use halachic concepts to determine a Jewish court case involving self-driving cars. T he team met students from other Jewish schools around the US and Canada and had a great time!
George Bush Library and Museum

Students Liviya Schlachter (l) and Maya Ashlag (r) had been studying the United States Presidents. They laid out all 45 President cards on a timeline in chronological order.  After choosing the first few Presidents to research, they selected a special and a favorite leader about which to read and write. To continue their research they planned a "Going Out" to the George H. W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum.  Here they are sitting in the Oval Office as it was decorated for President Bush, # 41. What a great opportunity!
Exxon Mobile

Students from Ms. Jan's classroom, The Beren Economists, recently visisted Exxon to see their trading room and campus. They are enjoying learning about the stockmarket. Pictured from left to right: Avi Tarshish, Jacob Silberlicht, Joshua Danziger, and Ariel Lagnado.
Involved Alumni

Alumni spending their gap-year in Israel had the opportunity to meet with incoming Head of School Dr. Paul Oberman who treated them to a delicious breakfast at Waffle Bar in Jerusalem, and got to hear from them about their experience at RMBA. Pictured clockwise: Shayna Guttman, Alex Ghelman, Asaph Kupferman, and Zach Katz.
A Special Guest!

Kindergarten student Sivan Melnik brought in her stuffed pony as last week's special kindergarten Shabbat guest! Each week a different student brings a stuffed animal/doll from home and the class then takes some time to "meet" the guest and find out why the toy is special to the child.
The Pros

Students in Ms. Bigham's class got to enjoy a crazy sock day for reaching $20/lap on their classroom's pledge-o-meter for RMBA's Fun Run.  The class, who have chosen the team name The Pros, have collectively raised over $100/lap and are currently in first place.
Chutes and Ladders

2nd grades students enjoyed incorporating their new Hebrew words into their Chutes and Ladders game. Students rolled the dice and needed to form a sentence with the corresponding Hebrew word from their worksheet.
Results Are In...

We are so excited to share that 19 students from the 2016 4th and 5th grade classes qualified for the Duke University Talent Identification Program (that's close to 60%!!). The Duke University Talent Identification Program (Duke TIP) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving academically gifted and talented youth. Duke TIP works with students, their families, and educators to identify, recognize, challenge, engage, and help students reach their highest potential.
