Lag BaOmer

On the 33rd day of the Omer RMBA students celebrated Lag BaOmer. Our wonderful Benot Sherut, Shira and Osi, prepared different festive activities including singing, dancing around a mock bonfire, and making delicious pita on the Tabun.

Ultimate Parsha
In this week's Torah reading, Behar and Bechukotai, there is a seemingly random sequence of verses that begins with observance of the Shemitah year and concludes with rules for laborers and slaves going free. Rashi suggests that this grouping is not random at all; a person who allows greed to overcome his willingness to observe Shemitah will go on a downward spiral of losing his money and possessions until he ultimately must sell himself to idol-worshippers, unless he repents somewhere along the way.

2 Truths & A Lie
We are excited to feature someone from the RMBA family in every issue of the Buzz via this fun game! Want to be featured? Email Tania Levenstein your 2 truths and a lie!

Sixth Graders Integer War

The sixth graders in Mrs. Rosenzweig's class had a great time practicing integer addition and subtraction operations while playing war.
Creating Circuits

8th grade has been learning about electricity and applying their knowledge to creating circuits and testing current and resistance.

Last week, Mrs Goldstein showed students how to make wire mazes. Students tested the steadiness of the circuit with a wire loop that, when it touched the track, set off a buzzer and lit up a lightbulb.

The students enjoyed the activity and are working on making new fun circuits.
A Moment of Pride

It is hard to believe that in two years the second graders have accomplished so many goals in Hebrew class. The students have learned the letters and also how to read, write, and speak the language.

Last week, the second grade students wrote beautiful essays about Israel, which are now on display in the lower school hallway.

Teacher Appreciation Week

This week teachers were treated to breakfast and snacks by the fantastic PTO (led by Dawne Yarmush).

Dawne has been the PTO chair for the last five years, and her appreciation of teachers is truly remarkable.

We thank Dawne for her amazing work and dedication to the PTO.
Read books before they are even published!
Be a published book critic!

The Middle and High School English classes have been participating in a program sponsored by Brazos Bookstore and various publishers.

The program, called ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) supplies our classrooms with books not yet published. Students who read these books write brief reviews which, when the book is published, are placed on the shelves and hang down just below the books reviewed. These “book talkers” are read by all shoppers who look at the student-reviewed books, and can be the deciding factor in whether or not they purchase one of those books.

The picture above shows two of the reviews which are already on the shelves.
Rainforest Research

The first grade students in Mrs. Schneider's class are working very hard on their rainforest research. Each of the students selected an animal from the rainforest and are finding interesting facts about these animals to write about.

On May 16th, the first graders will visit the rainforest pyramid at Moody Gardens - Galveston. Students will see the rainforests of Asia, Africa and the Americas.
Working Hard on our Grammar

The 4th graders in Ms. Massey's class are busy reviewing the many lessons that have been taught this year in grammar and writing. They have also been utilizing these skills in creating a story in comic form about heroes and villains.
