Tomorrow begins 3 PM Friday dismissal!
Parashat Chayei Sara
Candle Lighting 5:10 p.m.
Havdalah 6:18 p.m.
On Friday the lower school and upper school assembled to send-off the 12th grade senior class on their much anticipated trip to Israel! Students from every grade presented the seniors with well wishes and gifts to take to the Holy Land.
Ultimate Parsha
As  Chayei   Sarah  opens, we see Avraham attempting to purchase a burial plot for Sarah. Avraham begins his entreaty by stating "I am an alien and a resident among you..." As Rashi explains, Avraham is indeed from elsewhere, yet he has also settled in the area and made it his home. R' Yosef Dov Soloveitchik suggests a more metaphorical interpretation, that this statement represents what all Jews face outside of the land of Israel. We are supportive of our county and place of residence, yet we remain "alien" in many ways, in terms of behavior, dress, and ultimate allegiance to Hashem.

Go 'Stros!

In celebration of the Astros historic World Series win, students gathered in the Big Ulam last week to watch the victorious parade via live stream! Students came dressed in their favorite Astros jerseys and enjoyed delicious ballpark snacks!
Balfour Declaration

High school students last week enjoyed activities and learning about the Balfour Declaration during an assembly in celebration of the 100th Anniversary of when the British government announced support for a national home for the Jewish people.
Peer Leadership

A critical part of Dr. Oberman's peer leadership elective is the time that the amazing peer leaders spend with the ninth graders, teaching the younger students what the peer leaders wish they knew when  they  were in ninth grade! This was the first time that the ninth graders officially met with their peer leaders, with more fun to come!
Oh Mann! So Yum!

Students in 6th grade got to experience what Mann looked and tasted like. The students combined coriander seeds (although white) with the taste of wafers and honey.

For the first time ever, RMBA high school students were able to experience a Minimester week. The Minimester is a very special, week-long opportunity for Beren students to take any courses of special interest, without the pressures of testing, papers and other academic requirements. It is also an opportunity for instructors to teach their passion to a very receptive group of students. Sessions included classes such as "Introduction to Movie Making," "Backgammon for Blood," "Self Discovery & Maximizing Your Potential," "Iranian Cinema," "Pitching: Shark Tank Style," "Molecular Gastronomy," and much more.
Crawling Caterpillars

Morah Dinu's EC2 class learned all about the Fall season this past week! The children pretended to be the wind blowing the leaves down, and enjoyed books such as Red Leaf Yellow Leaf by Lois Ehlert and We're Going on a Leaf Hunt by Steve Metzger. Students were so excited to find caterpillars on the playground and learn all about how they change into chrysalis and come out as butterflies.
