Parashat Nitzavim-Vayeilech
Shabbat Candle Lighting 7:08 p.m.
Havdalah 8:14 p.m.
Our school has been so fortunate to receive so many acts of kindness in the wake of Harvey. This week our students were treated to delicious cookies from David's Cookies in NJ, and special medical clowns came all the way from Israel to bring happiness and smiles to our students. Thank you!
Ultimate Parsha
In the first of this week's parshas, Nitzavim, we continue to learn of our responsibility for  helping our fellow Jews observe the mitzvot. Moshe enumerates those who are standing before him and separates them into groups, suggesting different levels of responsibility based on different spheres of influence. For example, leaders are expected to affect a great number of followers, while the youngest children will likely be able to affect only a few friends.

Exploring Order of Operations

This week sixth graders made PEMDAS mobiles to show that division- multiplication and subtraction-addition can switch order depending on which of the pairs comes first in an expression. Mrs. Rosenzweig observed that students improved their order of operations work after making these visual mobiles.
MS Volleyball

The Middle School Girls volleyball team opened their season last week at an away game vs.Veritas. They are looking forward to a fun season.
Shabbat Shalom!

Kindergarten through 3rd grade enjoyed their first oneg Shabbat of the school year last Friday. Every Friday 30 minutes before dismissal students in K-3rd meet in the ulam (auditorium) to hear about the parsha (weekly Torah portion) and sing songs and dance to bring in Shabbat.
Never Forget

September 11th will always be a day of remembrance across the country. Not only as we remember the lives lost, but the unity of the country during a very difficult time. The Upper School English and History departments honored the day and its significance with classroom discussions.
Peer Leadership

Seniors in the Peer Leadership elective met for the first time this week in Dr. Oberman's office. The group is set to meet twice a week and in turn they will meet with 9th graders to teach them all the things they wish they knew in 9th grade. This week there were 2 communication exercises where in one activity they were asked to keep their eyes closed and needed to identify 2 missing pieces from a 35 piece set. In the other activity they were placed back to back in pairs and given a random design that they had to verbally describe to each other.
Torah Cafe

At this week's Middle School Torah Cafe students munched on sushi while learning the stories and messages from the Talmudic literature about Rabbi Akiva: his life story, wisdom, kindness, positivism, and support in the Bar Kochba Rebellion.
On Air

Last week the Nachum Segal Network did a live broadcast from RMBA during a special musical performance by Mordechai Shapiro. Pictured above, alum Yoni Pollak who helped bring the special event that made music and unity possible. Thank you!
Tefilla Time Torah

Dr. Oberman joined the kindergarten for some of their tefilla time this week. Since he was a special visitor, the class gave him the honor of being the "Torah helper". As they all sang "Torah Torah" Dr O. brought the Torah around for each student to touch if he or she desired.
