The past 2 weeks have been an emotional whirlwind for almost everyone across Houston. One of the most heartwarming things to see come out of the devastation is the community coming together to support and uplift each other. We hope you enjoy this video which tries to capture all of the chessed going on in our community.
Ultimate Parsha
In discussing freedom with our children, they naturally focus on things that they are  not  allowed to do. For example, children may not allowed be to text at the dinner table, leave dirty dishes in the sink, or wear anything they choose at school. In the United States we are not allowed to drive on the left side of the road. And in this week's parsha, Ki Tavo, Ramban approves of the view that we are not free to ignore the Torah shortcomings of others when we are in a position to help. Where is the freedom in these individual limitations?

Creativity Journals

The children in Morah Aviva's younger EC4 class are so excited to practice and continue to develop their writing skills this year! They sign in each morning by writing their names in their morning packets, and they are especially eager to express their creativity and imagination in their very own journals! Pictured above is Asher Berman.
Painting with Primaries

Students in Morah Dinu's younger EC2 class were excited for the paint to come out and begin their apple printing using primary colors. Apple printing was a very popular activity this week! Pictured above is Emma Setovi.

Gallery Walk

MS and HS students gathered together during our opening assembly on Tuesday morning and participated in a gallery walk. The purpose of the gallery walk was to provide a safe space for students to begin to process the recent events of Hurricane Harvey and the devastating floods our community experienced. The gallery walk also provided students a time to work together and talk about how the storm has affected them. Students were given sticky notes and were asked to walk around to each poster board, which posed questions about the storm, and answer the questions in their own words.
Flip Lessons

7th graders kick-started the year by working on their flip lesson model with Mrs. Rivkie Gottlieb. Flip lesson is an instructional tool by which students read a short article or watch an informative video out of the classroom and answer questions, provided by the teacher. We are using verso.app - an online discussion forum that is then brought to the classroom to enrich class interactions. This week 7th Grade was given an assignment to discuss the idea that everything is a matter of perspective, being that the end of Shmuel Alef (which they learned last year) includes details of the death of Shaul, and now in Shmuel Bet the story is repeated with a number of differences. How can this be reconciled?!
