Today's Gospel reading discusses how Jesus is the Bread of Life. The crowd asks for a sign from Jesus, a sign that will help them see and believe in Him. They give a quote to Jesus from the Scripture, "he gave them bread from Heaven to eat."

Jesus responds to them, saying that it was His father who gave them the bread from Heaven, not Moses. Yes, Moses gave their ancestors bread, but it was not bread that fed the soul, but bread that fed the body. The bread of God gives life to the world. The crowd asks to be given this bread forever. Jesus let's them know solemnly, that He is the bread of life. If you go to him, you won't hunger. If you believe in him, you will never thirst.

Jesus is not saying come to me for one day, or one week, or even a year. He is saying that you need to go to him fully and completely.

Faith is required to accept the mystery of the Eucharist, and going to Jesus means believing in him, and it is with faith that we approach our Lord. We all need to remember our faith as we accept the Eucharist, and not take it as though it is just a piece of bread. It is what feeds our soul. We also need to realize that God will always be there for us when we need to turn to him.
