This week we're presenting the Guild of Boston Artists, Ogunquit Museum of American Art, and Umbrella Community Art Center with exhibitions featuring a host of accomplished artists who are masters of their craft. There are other interesting and exciting events for those who want more.
Artscope is sponsoring Worcester Art Museum's exhibition Exploring the Myths of James Dye. The exhibition is featured in the current May/June issue of Artscope and will be on view until September 2, so be sure to check it out!
We're also sponsoring Fruitland Museum's current exhibition "Leisure Pursuits." The exhibition will be on view until March 24, 2019, so there's plenty of time to give it a look!

2018 Members Juried Exhibition at the Guild of Boston Artists

Alberta Geyer, "The Mink Stole"
From now until June 2, the Guild of Boston Artists is hosting its "2018 Members Juried Exhibition." The Guild of the Boston Artists juried exhibitions are steeped in history and excellence. The members exhibition is on view in the President's Gallery and features several award winning pieces. The Charles Movalli Memorial Medal of Excellence in Painting was awarded to Kelly Carmody's piece "The Poppy Dress," the Alden Bryan Memorial Award for Landscape was given to Harley Bartlett's "Old New England" and Awards of Merit were given to Alberta Geyer's "The Mink Stole," Michael Graves's "From Hogback Rd, VT" and Sergio Roffo's "On Lake Winnipesaukee." These are only some of the paintings that earned awards for their excellence. Each painting on view in "2018 Members Juried Exhibition" is beautiful, detailed, and captivating. There is an ART TALK being held from 6:30 p.m.⎻8:00 p.m. on May 17th⎻RSVP is required. Steve Hawley: Studio Light at Ogunquit Museum of American Art

The Ogunquit Museum of American Art celebrates and opens the 65th Anniversary Exhibition Season with and exciting program of traditional and contemporary art forms. Presently on view through July 4 is "Steve Hawley: Studio Light." The contemporary exhibition of 37 paintings was curated by guest curator Katherine French. A fully illustrated catalog accompanies the exhibition. Steve Hawley lives and works in Newburyport, MA and this exhibition represents the first survey of his work with a museum. Hawley draws upon his extensive art education from various institutions. His first-hand lessons from influential figures such as Henry Schwartz and his deep religious faith further help him create stunning works of art from still lifes to landscapes. Michael Mansfield, Executive Director and Chief Curator of Ogunquit Museum of American Art, says that "Hawley is a remarkably skilled painter. I've been fortunate to work with both the artist and our guest curator to bring together his finest works from across the country." Parallel Paths at the Umbrella Community Art Center
in Concord, Massachusetts through June 15
 Andy Newman
"Parallel Paths" will be on view at the Umbrella Community Art Center through June 15. The exhibtion features the work of painter Andy Newman and writer Gregory Maguire, both of whom are resident artists at The Umbrella. Newman's figures are being shown alongside characters from Gregory's novels in an exhibition focused on the sympathetic depiction of character. In addition, the two artists are married and share a studio, further drawing their works closer together. In the words of the exhibition webpage, "visitors may decide for themselves if, and how, the artists have influenced each other in their work." There will be an ArtTalk for the exhibition on June 5 at 5:30 p.m.; tickets for it can be purchased here. Human Impact: Stories of the Opioid Epidemic
Call for Artists Deadline: June 1, 2018 at midnight
Human Impact: Stories of the Opioid Epidemic will bring together artists working in craft-based media with families that have been impacted by the New England opioid crisis. Following an in-person meeting, the artists will create new works inspired by the conversation and be provided substance use information by High Point Treatment Center to inform their process. The final commissioned works will be exhibited at Fuller Craft from September 2019⎻March 2020.
Human Impact: Stories of the Opioid Epidemic is partnership between Fuller Craft Museum, the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office, Quincy College, Brockton Hospital, High Point Treatment Center, and Stonehill College.
