Bethany Renew
Midweek Email Devotion
   December 01, 2016

WELCOME!
I welcome you to Bethany Renew! This is our church's weekly online spiritual connection.  Every midweek, you will receive a devotion, essay, or sermon nuggets that are intended to stir up conversations and ideas of how we will proceed on the path of renewal. Feel free to forward this email to anyone who you think will be interested in receiving these readings.  You are welcome to respond or make com ments, or otherwise just sit back and enjoy your weekly readings!
THANK YOU
To Barbara for leading worship and giving an inspiring first Advent sermon. To those who gave out more than 300 door hangers last Saturday. To everyone who adorned the sanctuary with Christmas decorations. Advent is here, and thank you all for making us feel its here-ness.

The world will be a little different in the coming days. Something magical will fill the air.

The magical dust of the season will once again glitter on the cheeks of children. This magic will be shown on TV commercials and in many colorfully lighted stores. It will be shared by families that will welcome home their loved ones from colleges, hometowns, and overseas. Reunions will mend long wounds. Carolings will cheer lonely houses. Disputes will be shelved, at least for a while. Millions of cards will be sent. Churches will be filled with worshippers.

Out of all this, don't miss the greatest magic. Because more than any other time, Christmas is a time that people remembers Emmanuel, God is with us. Those who have left God will be brought back to the manger. We who love God will sing our hymns more festively, and offer gifts to the needy like how the magi gave to the Christ-Child. Believers will celebrate Christ, the central reason of the Christmas season.
This year, let us celebrate together our Christmas events
Strangers In Advent............................ Dec. 9, 6:30 p.m.
Blue Christmas......................................Dec. 16, 7:00 p.m.
Christmas Eve......................................Dec. 24, 11:00 p.m.
Christmas Day Sunday Worship..........Dec. 25, 10:30 a.m.

And as we gather each Advent Sundays, let us gather at the altar all our shares to make this Christmas not just magical, but an offering of worship to our God. After all, what appears to be magic, is in reality, the Spirit's work of endlessly fulfilling through our lives the angelic proclamation of Glorifying God in the highest and spreading peace to everyone on whom God's favor rests (Luke 2: 14). This magic is the Majesty of God revealed through you and me!

Have a blessed and magical Advent season.
