News and Events

From Pastor Laura

Pastor Laura is on vacation. Her message to the congregation will resume in our next newsletter.

Bethlehem Serves

Our annual day of service will take place on Sunday, August 21. Project signups are taking place before or after each worship service on Sunday, August 7 and 14. On the 21st we will meet for a sending service at 9AM and then disperse to our projects. We will meet again on campus later to share in a potluck lunch. Bethlehem will provide carne asada and polla asada and all the fixings. Bring a salad, side dish, or dessert to share.

Stephen Ministry

What Kind of Woman Would Receive the Care of a Stephen Minister?

* A woman like Sarah
who faced a major change in life at an advanced age and needed someone to listen both to her joy and apprehension.

* A woman like Hagar
who was abandoned along with her child and needed someone to offer her hope and remind her of God's presence.

* A woman like Hannah
who struggled with her inability to bear a child and needed someone with whom to share her sadness and pain.

* A woman like Naomi
who had lost her loved ones and needed someone to hear her sorrow and pain.

* A woman like Ruth
who left everything that was familiar to her and needed someone to journey with her in her new life.

* A women like Ester
who was faced with a major decision and needed someone who could listen to her concerns and offer encouragement.

* A woman like Mary of Nazareth
who lived with both the joys and struggles of having an exceptional child and needed someone to help her sort out the ponderings of her heart.

* A woman like Martha
who was burdened by the demands of daily life and needed someone to help her regain sight of what was most important.

* A woman like Mary Magdalene
who received healing from inner turmoil and needed someone to walk with her as she built a new life.

* A woman like you.

If you would like to know how a Stephen Minister could care for you please speak with Pr Laura or one of our Stephen Leaders Molly Hall, or Laure Reynolds.

Music Ministry

It's a chance to have a "Bucket List" experience!  Please join the Lutheran Choir Night at the Padres on Friday, September 9th. A choir of Lutheran singers from many congregations will be singing the national anthem LIVE at the game that begins at 7:40 p.m. against the Rockies. Everyone in high school or older may be part of the choir so now is the time to sign up at church or contact Roger Lakey ( rmlakey@roadrunner.com) if you would like to participate.   The anthem, sung in four parts, will need to be memorized so copies of the Star Spangled Banner arrangement are available at church or through mgoetsch@gmail.com if you would like to participate. Ticket prices are $35.00 for adults and $25 for 18 years old and under. Checks should be made out to Bethlehem Lutheran Church and put BASEBALL in the memo line.  This is a fundraiser for Bethlehem and all are welcome to attend the game that evening. Ticket orders need to be in by Sunday, August 7th but late registration will be accepted. Come to sing or just to watch!

 TACO

A BIG Thank You from TACO!!!

TACO would like to thank our congregation for all the support we give them on an ongoing basis and especially for our response to their recent request.  We got quite a few hygiene products, pkgs of men's crew sox & undies  and women's underwear.  The need for those items is always great.  They need a variety of boxers & briefs and women's underwear in various sizes.  They serve 150 - 200 guests 2ce/week so they need to stay stocked up these most requested items.

The hygiene products most needed are deodorant, body wash (not soap), shampoo, conditioner (or shampoo w/conditioner), toothbrushes, toothpaste & lotion.  All should be travel sizes since our guests do not have a place to store larger products.

We will continue to collect travel sizes of those items to pack hygiene bags on Bethlehem Serves Day, 8/21.  Last year we packed 254 bags.  Let's try to beat that!

Thank you all SO MUCH for being so willing to help those less fortunate than we are!

As you did it to one of the least of these, you did it to me.    Matthew 25:40

 Online Giving

Online Giving, a Green Path to Stewardship

We are always looking for ways to make giving more convenient and environmentally friendly. With today's online financial tools, it has never been easier to set up and track regular giving, special offerings and donations to specific areas. Just follow the easy steps provided with our new online service and you will be surprised at how easy it is to be a regular giver at whatever level seems right. We have expanded on the services provided by the same Minnesota-based online service that has managed our electronic giving for a number of years. They serve thousands of churches, and the service is secure, maintaining privacy.

How to get started...
You may access the online service by clicking on the link on Bethlehem's web page http://www.blcenc.org/id218.html. Once you are on the site, you may use your checking account, or your debit or credit card information. If your cards are on a mileage program, you can gain frequent-flier miles while helping support the ministries of Bethlehem.

Dear  ,

Thank you for registering with our e-mail announcement and update service at www.blcenc.org
