"Singing and Signing"
Thursdays, April 2, 16 and 30 @ 10:30 AM
A program for pre-school children and seniors. Sing and learn to sign favorite songs! Senior choir "Optimistic Voices" will also perform. No signup needed - all ages welcome.

"The Story of Pinocchio" 
Friday, April 17 at 3:30 PM 
The Hampstead Stage Company performs the timeless children's tale "Pinocchio" based on Carlo Collodi's story of the puppet who wanted to be a boy. The program is for children ages 6 and older. Adults will enjoy the show as well. No registration is necessary.

"Pre-School Music with Dara"
Fridays, April 3 and May 1 @ 10:45 AM 
Lively, interactive musical program for children 18 mos. to 5 years - all welcome!

"Upstairs, Downstairs: The Lives of Indoor Servants on Beverly's Gold Coast: 1850-1950"
Saturday, April 11 at 11 AM 
Illustrated lecture with historian Nancy Coffey. Part of the Beverly Farms History Project. Former servants and descendants of servants are especially encouraged to come and share stories and photos!

"From Stage Coach to Steam...and Beyond: Transportation to Beverly Farms, 1840 to the Late 20th Century"
Thursday, April 23 at 7 PM 
Illustrated lecture with local historian Ed Brown.
 
April Art Exhibit: 
"Beyond Borders"

Art in a variety of media, including ceramics, by Beverly High School AP art students. All welcome!

New Mobile-Friendly Format
Starting in May, the library's email newsletter will feature a more mobile-friendly format that should make it easier to read on any mobile device. Keep a lookout for this new and improved version of our news!

April Holiday Closures
The main library will be closed on Easter Sunday, April 5. (The Farms branch is always closed on Sundays.) Additionally, both library locations will be closed on Patriots Day, Monday, April 20, 2015.

Spring Book Sale Begins May 9

Our annual Friends of the Beverly Public Library Spring Book Sale begins Saturday, May 9 at the main library. The sale runs for nine days, through Sunday, May 17. We're currently accepting donations of gently used books, movies, and music for the sale - find all donation and sale details here

Membership Has Its Privileges

Members of the Friends of the Beverly Public Library are invited to a preview of the annual Friends' Spring Book Sale on Friday, May 8 from 6 - 8 PM. It's a wonderful chance to socialize and seek books in a relaxed setting. Not yet a member of the Friends? No problem! You can join at the door. Find the important details here.

"The Songs of Pete Seeger"
Saturday, April 25 @ 2 - 3 PM
Join "roots master musician" ( Billboard Magazine) folk and bluegrass artist Phil Rosenthal for a 60-minute concert celebrating the music of Pete Seeger (1919-2014). The program will feature many of Seeger's best-known compositions and other prominent songs, along with some of Seeger's comments about the history and significance of the songs he performed and recorded. Bookmobile Service Suspended 
The library's Bookmobile services are temporarily suspended through May 2015. The Bookmobile librarian is on leave. We expect services to resume some time in early June. Please check the library's website for any updates. Questions? Please contact Anna at [email protected] or 978-921-6062.

"Mudeye Puppets: Hazel and VelCrow's Wacky World Tour"
Saturday, April 25 @ 10 AM
Join Hazel and VelCrow on their adventure around the world. Stick around after the show to meet the puppets up close and personal!  Sponsored by Coordinated Family & Community Engagement Program of Peabody, Danvers, Beverly, Topsfield, Middleton & Boxford. Funded by a grant from the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care awarded to Peabody Public Schools.

Save the Date! 
"The Typewriter Project" ~ May 4
The main library is participating in a project by Montserrat student Claudia Valenti, recipient of a 2015 Beverly Cultural Council grant. "The Typewriter Project" is a gallery exhibition featuring a collection of typewriter-themed art and creative writing from the Beverly community. The Bear Gallery at the Cummings Center will be the site of the project's main exhibition, from April 25 to May 8. The main library is the location for the project's closing reception, which takes place Monday, May 4 and will feature a performance by the Boston Typewriter Orchestra and an exhibit of selected art pieces. The reception runs from 5 - 8 PM and is appropriate for all ages, so don't miss it! Questions? Please contact Ona at [email protected].

April Vacation Event: Pizza and a Movie! 
Thurs., April 23, 12-2 PM, Sohier Room 
Bored and hungry during school vacation? Come eat free pizza at the library while you watch "Big Hero 6" on our big screen! Open to all teens entering grades 6 through 12. 

19th Annual Teen Poetry Contest 
Tuesday, April 28, 7 PM, Sohier Room 
Join us for a night of excitement and amazing local poetry! All are welcome to attend our reception and awards ceremony for the Beverly Teen Poetry Contest held this winter. All finalists will be asked to read their poems aloud, winners will be announced, and prizes will be awarded. A reception with refreshments will follow. No registration needed.

April Art
"Many Years; Many Places: Travels from My Hand" 
April 2 - 30
The main library is pleased to host an exhibit of paintings by  Johanna Bohoy during the month of April.  The works in the exhibit feature Johanna's captured time travels over many  years, from "home sweet home," to the American West, a European grand  tour, island oases, and finally home again.  The exhibit  may be viewed during regular  library hours when library programs or community meetings are not in  progress.
