Did You Know?
History has credited Thomas Edison with the invention of the light bulb, but fewer people know about Lewis Howard Latimer, an African-American, whose innovations improved the development of the bulb.

Edison's light bulbs only burned for a short time until Latimer's carbon filaments were utilized, significantly lengthening bulb life.

BALTIMORE, MD -- As it is, there are many members, yet one body. The eye cannot say to the hand, 'I have no need of you,' nor again the head to the feet, 'I have no need of you.'

(I Corinthians 12:20-21)

The time is finally here! Conclave 2013!  50th

Anniversary! All that we wanted and all that we imagine during the next week are now upon us. It is time to celebrate and handle IOTA business in the most excellent of ways.

To my brothers, we all have received this wide call from our Founders, the 12 Men who envisioned a brotherhood that was not present in 1963; a void that left them craving unity in a manner that coincide with the civil rights issues of that day. To respond to this call to be one, we need one another. And it is my deep conviction that the members of this great Fraternity need the closer bond that we represent. And it is my humble conviction that you help us secure this bond.

Among the many challenges we face in this country, unity is the need to overcome divisions and prejudices that exclude one another. As St Paul reminds us in his first letter to the Corinthians, "there are many members, yet one body". I cannot say to any brother that I have no need for you. We need each other because it is only together that we can grow into the one brotherhood visioned by the Founders. So as we gather, let us have fun, conduct business, network, make new friends, establish everlasting bonds, and most of all, renew our love for each other!

See you in Baltimore...

BALTIMORE, MD -- As we celebrate the legacy and history of our 50th Anniversary, we must pause to also remember the significance of 1963 in this country and the Civil Rights Movement.  Less than 30 days after one of the greatest events in our country, 12 men, inspired by the events in Washington, gathered on the campus of Morgan State College to create Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Incorporated.

50 years later, the country will celebrate another anniversary; the March on Washington. There are several events that will take place on August 28, 2013 in Washington, DC.  I encourage all of you to visit http://www.50thanniversarymarchonwashington.com/ and view the scheduled events, various highlights from those who were a part of the Civil Rights Movement, several volunteer opportunities and the conference agenda.
