From autonomous and connected vehicles to our aging population to uncertainties surrounding climate change and funding, planners and elected officials are faced with enormous challenges in tying land use to the types and locations of transportation and other infrastructure investments that meet our needs today and into the future. On April 28, the Planning Commission and City of Tampa were honored with First Place in the Community Preparedness category by the Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council at its 25th Annual Future of the Region Awards. There's a lot going on in Plant City
At the Plant City's May 22nd City Commission meeting, Planning Commission Executive Director Melissa Zornitta and Senior Planner Jay Collins made a presentation highlighting many joint ventures with Plan Hillsborough. Among the highlights:

Plan Hillsborough highlighted at NPC17
The American Planning Association held its National Planning Conference (NPC17) in New York City. "Planning in Motion" was the theme for NPC17 that included educational opportunities on a myriad of exciting new trends, challenges, and solutions shaping the future of planning. We are very proud not only for the Imagine 2040 Comprehensive Plans for the Cities of Tampa, Temple Terrace and Plant City being recognized by APA's Sustainable Communities Division, but also for having Melissa Zornitta, Melissa Dickens, and Wade Reynolds be presenting panelists. Rumor has it, podcasts are coming soon. We'll keep you posted.

Plan Hillsborough teams up for Women Build
On April 27th, Plan Hillsborough staff donned their hard hats to  make a difference for a very special family in Temple Terrace. Guided by professional carpenters, our staff was able to help build a home as part of Habitat for Humanity's Women Build program. "Being part of Women Build was a great experience, and the entire team enjoyed working on the site and learned quite a bit about homebuilding, said Team Captain Tatiana Gonalez. "It feels good to know we contributed to the future well-being of the Cowen family who will soon have a place to call home."
