Mid-July 2014
Welcome!
Welcome to our first 2014-2015 newsletter! For the remainder of the summer, you will receive these newsletters twice a month. When the school year begins, you will receive these weekly. Please be sure to read these emails in their entirety as they contain important information for all of our families. For your convenience, we keep them as short as possible (this is an introductory email so it is lengthy, but future emails will not be insha'Allah) and we also post them on our Facebook page and website for you to access.

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with this newsletter. If you are a returning family from last year, you will notice a few changes have been made.

Calendar: Midway down, you will notice the August calendar. This calendar will be updated to reflect upcoming events which are important to just specific grade level families or all families.

Resources: Towards the bottom right, you will notice the Resources section which has a list of documents you may need throughout the year. For your convenience, they are included in every newsletter.

PTA Corner: This section lists events and activities being led by our school's Parent Teacher Association. All parents are welcome to join the PTA.

Across the Community: This section will include any community wide events or general announcements which may interest you and your family.

Important links: At the bottom of this newsletter you will notice icons for Orbund, Facebook, etc. These are important links we include in every newsletter so you can quickly access these sites as needed.

How to contact us: Next to the above mentioned links is our school's contact information. Please feel free to contact us any time you have a question or concern. During the summer, we are only available via email and respond in a timely manner.

As for the rest of the newsletter, there will be a variety of topics within it. They will range from administrative announcements, classroom happenings, event details, and more. Please see below for the news items which are specific to you as you and your students prepare for the new academic year.

In This Issue:
contactContact Info Changes?

If your address, phone number, email, or any other contact information changes over the summer, please keep us informed via a quick email to us so we can keep your family's records up to date.

Uniform Policy Amendment

We have made an amendment to our new year's uniform policy regarding having characters/figures on backpacks, etc. Please read the updated policy here.

Summer Reading

Required/recommended summer reading for students coming in to:

Mont. Level 3 (see page 1 only)
secondFinal Report Cards & Stanford Scores

If your child was enrolled in ILM in the 2013-2014 academic year, you will be receiving his/her final report card via mail in the next week. (You can also view them on Orbund.) If your child was in 1st-6th grades and took the Stanford exams, you will also receive those scores along with a letter from the principal about the school wide success rate.

Enrollment Completion

ILM Academy is going green(er) and our enrollment procedure for this year will be done online via a new service called TADS to make the process more efficient for our families and the school. More information about this will be sent out in the coming weeks to give you sufficient time to meet the enrollment deadline of Friday, August 15.

Montessori Orientation & New Student Testing

Please save the date of Tuesday, August 19 at 10am if you have new incoming Montessori students (this includes all Montessori level 1-3 students who have not been enrolled in our Montessori program in the past) or newly enrolling 1st-7th graders (who have not attended ILM Academy in the past). The Montessori students will be introduced to their teachers and will have the opportunity to grow comfortable with the classroom environment prior to the first day of school. The 1st-7th graders will be tested as a follow up to their interviews conducted earlier in the summer or last semester.
thirdSchool Supplies

In an effort to continue going green, to save families additional costs, and to make it easier on families during the back to school rush, ILM Academy will not be asking parents to purchase school supplies for each of their students next year. Instead, we will be charging families a school supply fee of $30 per student at the time of enrollment via TADS with which we will purchase school supply items in bulk for each student. This includes pens, pencils, paper, folders, composition notebooks, rulers, calculators, sleeping mats, etc.

Back to School Night

In previous years, we have held a Registration Open House in the week before school starting so parents can see the school and turn in registration paperwork. In the past, this has been difficult on parents to attend as many families are still out of town in the week prior to school starting and also we have moved registration paperwork online. Therefore, we will instead have a Back to School Night on Wednesday, August 27 at 6pm so parents can come in to meet their students' teachers and see the classrooms at that time. Additionally, we will also have a policy presentation to go over revisions to our handbook and other helpful information.
