is a non-traditional service at First United Methodist Church in Mission Valley, San Diego. We meet in the "Cove" (directions) every Sunday, 9:30 AM under the leadership of Dr. Elbert Kim and the live Water's Edge band, led by Chris Durrand.

Biases and stereotypes

Old habits are hard to break. Especially when it comes to letting go of preconceptions and staunch beliefs that keep us from having an open mind.

Often stereotypes and biases keep us from really seeing others through God's eyes. We keep our distance from people we don't understand and cast judgment on those whose way of life may be different from ours.

But God's love is wider than we can imagine and deeper than we can comprehend. God's forgiveness precedes our repentance. God accepts us even when we don't feel worthy. This Sunday, we'll be looking at the story of Zacchaeus, and how Jesus met him where he was...

Join us Sunday for worship at Water's Edge and come prepared to have our biases broken down.

Free Neighborhood Family Meal

Volunteers needed! September 30, 5:30-7 PM

On the last Monday of every month, First Church provides and serves food, and enjoys fellowship with families and other people in need of a nutritious, hot meal at the Normal Heights UMC, 4650 Mansfield St.

Each month we serve around 200 people and this time we need about 15 volunteers who can bring a casserole, salad or dessert. Email Brenda Blake, Director of Church and Community Work, if you would like to help.

W.E. Can

One of the goals for the Water's Edge congregation this year is to support our First Church Food Ministry: Loaves and Fishes. Besides canned food items, milk, eggs, and bread are always welcome. You may leave your donations in The Cove, or in Linder Hall.

Just know that even if you don't bring anything to share there is always more than enough for everyone! Our monthly potluck happens the 3rd Sunday of the month. See all the pictures...

Our service is low-key, non-traditional with weekly communion, open to everyone.
The band plays original Christian and traditional praise music. And it's ok to applaud.
