The Way Forward
Jesus said to her,  "I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me shall live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me shall never die.  Do you believe this?"  John 11:25, 26 (NASB)

God is faithful, through whom you were called into fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

And that is why, in the end, "every tongue shall confess" that Jesus Christ is the Lord, to the glory of God the Father.  Philippians 2:11 (Phillips)

...yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom are all things and we exist for Him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we exist through Him.  1 Corinthians 8:6 (NASB)




The Way Forward


David Roper makes a powerful assertion on the resurrection of Jesus: "The Son of God died and rose again, and His resurrection is the guarantee that God will bring us up out of the ground: A thinking, feeling, remembering, recognizable person will live forever."


Believers do live forever.


To what do we have to look forward?  There are two scenarios.  If we are alive, we will experience the rapture.  If we are dead, we will experience the resurrection and our heavenly bodies.  Either way, our savior, Jesus Christ, has guaranteed we will be with Him in heaven.  Frankly, now that I am going through the throes of senior maturity, I think I would prefer the rapture!


Sorry Lord I forgot.  You are the potter - I'm the clay.  As Barbara Johnson puts it concerning the rapture, "He'll toot and we'll scoot."  The Lord has promised, "My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness" in 2 Corinthians 12:9 (NASB).


Peterson in The Message paraphrases 2 Corinthians 4:16 - 18 beautifully:

So we're not giving up.  How could we!  Even though on the outside it often looks like things are falling apart on us, on the inside, where God is making new life, not a day goes by without his unfolding grace.  These hard times are small potatoes compared to the coming good times, the lavish celebration prepared for us.  There's far more here than meets the eye.  The things we see now are here today, gone tomorrow.  But the things we can't see now will last forever.


As Don and I have said so many times to each other, "I will see you here, there or in the air!

aloud.  As a good friend of mine once put it, "If this don't light your fire, you got wet wood!"
So, what do you think?  With God on our side like this, how can we lose?  If God didn't hesitate to put everything on the line for us, embracing our condition and exposing himself to the worst by sending his own Son, is there anything else he wouldn't gladly and freely do for us?  And who would dare tangle with God by messing with one of God's chosen?  Who would dare even to point a finger?  The One who died for us-who was raised to life for us!-is in the presence of God at this very moment sticking up for us.  Do you think anyone is going to be able to drive a wedge between us and Christ's love for us?  There is no way!  Not trouble, not hard times, not hatred, not hunger, not homelessness, not bullying threats, not backstabbing, not even the worst sins listed in Scripture:
"They kill us in cold blood because they hate you.
We're sitting ducks; they pick us off one by one."
None of this fazes us because Jesus loves us.  I'm absolutely convinced that nothing-nothing living or dead, angelic or demonic, today or tomorrow, high or low, thinkable or unthinkable-absolutely nothing can get between us and God's love because of the way that Jesus our Master has embraced us.  (Rom. 8:31-39 MSG).
