We’ve always been big supporters of home brewing here at Cambridge Brewing Co.  I mean, professional brewers have to get their start somewhere right?  Phil Bannatyne “tinkered” with home brewing in San Francisco while studying Brewing Science at the University of California, Davis. Even Brewmaster Will Meyers started out brewing at home, wide-eyed and eager for the chance to work in a real brewery.

So, what’s this big news you ask? After 25 years (yes, that’s right 25!) we’re hosting a homebrew competition.  Introducing the CBC Best of Show Homebrew Competition for Charity!  It’s time to fire up your kettle and get your carboy ready because it’s time to brew some beer! Whether you brew every weekend or a little less frequently we want to see what you’ve got.

Our Best of Show Competition is designed for the fun and love of brewing. We’ll have awesome guest beer judges and some great prizes.  As mentioned this competition is for charity and 100% of entry fees collected will be donated to Cambridge’s own EAST END HOUSE.

The Grand Prize winner will be invited to brew a full scale batch of his or her beer with the CBC Brew Crew and have their beer served on tap at CBC!  Runners up will receive some awesome prizes as well.  Final judging will take place on Saturday, May 3rd at our 25th Anniversary Party.

While we iron out some of the finer details, here’s something to help you start prepping:

·         Entries should be brewed based on BJCP Style Categories 1 – 16 (except 9E), 18, 20 – 22 (except 22C); please note though, this competition is not AHA/BJCP sanctioned.

·         A panel of judges will evaluate each entry according to the style in which it was entered.  This is a beer only competition, sorry no meads or ciders.

·         We require a minimum of three 12oz bottles of each entry.

·         All beers must be received by April 20th, so please plan your brew and fermentation accordingly.

·         Entry fee is $50 (100% to be donated to East End House in Cambridge.)

·         All brewers must be amateur brewers and 21 years old or older. Entries will not be accepted by brewers employed by a professional brewery.

Registration will be open soon and we’ll be sure to keep you posted on how to do so.  Take this time to stock up on ingredients and brush up on a few of your favorite recipes.  Feel free to email Laura with any questions at laura@cambridgebrewingcompany.com.  And please pass this along to anyone you know that might be interested in having their beer brewed and served at CBC.

Cheers!
Laura and Will
