Goal for 2014: One concept from each institution. To date, we've received concepts from 10 institutions! The 14 studies/concepts in the current BTCRC pipeline are outlined below.

Genitourinary

Melanoma/Cutaneous Oncology
(now forming) 
  • Initial invitations sent Oct. 2. Kick-off call targeted for late November/early December.
  • Seeking representation from Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Purdue, and Wisconsin.
  • Concept in process (not yet presented): Squamous cell carcinoma of the skin (Rutgers)
Hematologic Malignancies
(now forming) 
  • Initial invitations sent Oct. 15. AHQ has received interest in forming working groups in the areas of myeloid neoplasms, lymphoma, and myeloma.

Big Ten Network Website Highlights BTCRC

The Big Ten Network's LiveBIG program recently highlighted the BTCRC on its website. The story mentions the work of the BTCRC Clinical Trial Working Groups and offers a few brief examples of member institutions making a difference through research and support for cancer patients. These examples include:

  • The University of Illinois Cancer Center's partnership with Imerman Angels that matches cancer patients with survivors and caregivers.
  • Michigan State University's Dinesh Vyas, MD, who is conducting research involving nanotechnology.
  • Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute's research on a virus that kills triple-negative breast cancer cells in mice.
  • The Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center's role in spearheading the Northern Great Plains Personalized Breast Cancer Program.
