Lots of news!  PortSide has a BIG May schedule with new programs! Our ship turns 80! Architects are working on a business plan to expand into building space, and we want your input for that!

Please read on and please donate to support PortSide's growth. More about that below.

I hope to see you aboard soon! We are just 30 yards from the Red Hook  NYC Ferry  stop and a block from a Citibike dock; it couldn't be easier to visit.

Best,

"MARY month of May" for our ship's 80th!

Come experience our May festival of FREE ma ritime programs, "the  MARY Month of May " in honor of the 80th birthday of our historic ship, the tanker MARY A. WHALEN .  The MARY was built for a Red Hook, Brooklyn company, and she has national significance. Come celebrate her and Red Hook this May!  Check out the full program list here.

May's programs include maritime art-making, music, the ever-
popular  Second Sundays   TankerTime and weekday TankerTime, plus events for school children and the general public.  We are also launching new programs this May:
We will also launch version 2.0 of our e-museum Red Hook WaterStories that reveals forgotten and untold stories about this historic  peninsula and tells NYC's maritime story in microcosm.

Space Expansion Plan!
Since being founded in 2005, PortSide has been seeking building space to create a maritime center with year-round programs and to launch programs that do not fit on the ship MARY A. WHALEN.  We are now working on a business plan to expand into 5,700 square feet alongside the ship, in the Pier 11 warehouse.

We are thrilled that two great, local architects are working on the project. Severn Clay-Youman, the principal of Civic Architecture Workshop and Ahmed ElHusseiny, the principal of AE Superlab. We want to hear from you:  what kinds of programs do you want PortSide offering in this space? More
