You will remember that last month we told you about the
Archdiocesan Pastoral Plan Project
to make recommendations to the new archbishop. We are aiming to have the recommendations completed and ready to deliver to him in June, 2016. We have no inside information about who the new archbishop will be or when he will be appointed or installed here, but we intend to let him know that the faithful of the archdiocese are concerned and ready to help him move forward.
So far the plan is for 2 phases: We have discerned from all the input we have received that there are 7 areas of general concern:
- outreach to the world
- personal growth
- liturgy and sacraments
- parish life
- structural mechanisms for two-way communication
- education
- ministry formation
In each of those 7 areas we may have up to 5 recommendations to present.
In Phase I, we will draft the recommendations over the next 3 months and deliver them to the leadership in June, 2016.
In Phase II, Fall of 2016, we hope to bring them to the community at large and see who wants to help develop and implement the recommendations with the new Archbishop's staff.
We are responsible for the mission of the church. Our inspiration is Vatican II and the leadership of Pope Francis who urges us to be the sign of God's love and mercy in the world. With institutional support from the archdiocese, we can work together for the reign of God as followers of Jesus.
What you can do:
- Tell us whether you support this initiative.
- Let us know what recommendations you would make to the new archbishop.
- Volunteer to help draft a recommendation.
