USA South Picks NC Wesleyan Football Third

Montgomery, Ala. - The USA South's 2016 Football Media Day was held Monday, August 1st, at Huntingdon College. Each of the Conference's eight football coaches addressed the media and gave their thoughts on the upcoming season. Last season, the Bishops tied for 2nd-place in the USA South standings after posting a 5-2 record in league play. Wesleyan returns 15 starters from that squad, six on offense and nine on defense. Offensively, the Bishops will be led by 2015 USA South Offensive Player of the Year Malik Adams, who led the nation with 19 touchdown receptions last season. Joining him will be the league's 2015 Offensive Rookie of the Year Adrian Minondo at running back.

Entering his fourth season at the helm of the program, head coach Jeff Filkovski returns 73 letterwinners overall and has high hopes that their experience will compliment a host of talented newcomers.  Read more.

Lalo Ugalde Serves Wesleyan Both On And Off Court

After coming all the way from Queretaro, Mexico, Lalo Ugalde has made his mark here at NC Wesleyan.  A senior business major, he can be found on the tennis court, at the admissions office or behind the camera around campus.  His favorite part about being a student at Wesleyan is that he can be very involved.

Lalo, who's actual name is Eduardo, plays on the men's tennis team and was the Conference Tournament MVP in 2014.  "In the conference final against Methodist, we were leading 4-3.  We needed one more win to earn our sixth consecutive conference title.  With a three set victory at #4 singles I clinched the title for us.  It was a great battle from everyone.  That victory meant a lot for everyone," said Lalo.

"Being a student-athlete can be tough with practices, homework, tournaments, and tests going on at the same time.  If you feel overwhelmed in these situations you have to push yourself and work harder because these are the moments that matter and define us as a person, and when you succeed you will feel great."

In addition to being on the tennis team, Lalo works in the admissions office with international students.

Upon his graduation December, 2016, Lalo wants to stay in America and work for a few years to gain business experience.  Eventually he would like to start his own business.
