A Newsletter for Alumni and Friends of North Carolina Wesleyan College

During the week of Valentine's, February 12th-19th, NC Wesleyan College would like to have at least 1,000 N.C. Wesleyan alumni show their love for their alma mater.  As little as $10 can make a difference and help us reach this goal.  Alumni participation is so important to help increase opportunities for current students, set an example for future alumni, and boost the college's rankings among peer schools on the recruiting trail.  Be a proud Bishop ... Show Your Love.  It's easy!

NC Wesleyan Youth Theology Institute Holds First Reunion

The 2016 YTI group planted a tree on campus in gratitude for the contributions the inaugural class of the NC Wesleyan YTI program will make to their churches and communities....a living reminder of the partnerships being formed.
NC Wesleyan Youth Theology Institute gives high school students the time, place and tools to explore God's calling on their lives.  Check out what the 2016 YTI students said last summer!

Alumni Directory Project Underway - Have You Responded?

NC Wesleyan College authorized Publishing Concepts (PCI) to launch a project to update contact information for all Wesleyan alumni and to create a new alumni directory.
By now all alumni should have received a postcard requesting you to update your contact information with PCI.  PCI will also attempt to contact you via e-mail and phone calls in order to update your contact information.  We encourage you to respond to these communications.  Once PCI has collected the information, the company will compile the data and create a new alumni directory.

PCI is a trusted partner of NC Wesleyan College.  We hope you will participate in our alumni directory project.
If you have questions, please contact Tammy Harrell, Director of Alumni Relations, at tharrell@ncwc.edu or 252-985-5141.

Haynes '16 Says ASPIRE Program Perfect Match

Gay Brinkley Haynes successfully completed her "30-some-odd-year" journey to receiving her bachelor's degree December, 2016 when she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at the Raleigh-Durham location of NCWC.

As a professional whose typical work week is between 50 and 60 hours per week, Haynes needed to find a program that would fit her needs and North Carolina Wesleyan College's Adult Degree Program was the perfect match.  Offering classes online and during the evenings Haynes was able to balance working full time while going back to school.

"Working towards my bachelor's degree has given me more confidence both personally and professionally and has allowed me to take on more responsibility at my job.  I couldn't have been more pleased with the support I received from the staff and professors at North Carolina Wesleyan College.  Without their expertise, insight, support and guidance I received I would not have been able to graduate this past December!" said Haynes.

Meadows Named Women's Lacrosse Assistant Coach

The NCWC Department of Athletics is pleased to announce the addition of Charlotte "Lottie" Meadows as assistant coach for the Battling Bishop women's lacrosse program.  Meadows joins first-year head coach Bridget Walker in her efforts to build the reinstated program, which is slated to begin competition in the spring of 2018.

Meadows comes to NC Wesleyan after a successful collegiate career at USA South for Meredith College, where she was a member of the Avenging Angels' inaugural 2013 team.  The talented midfielder was an integral part of Meredith's rise to the top of the USA South, serving as team captain for three seasons and leading the Angels to back-to-back USA South Tournament Championships and NCAA berths in 2014 and 2015.
She is a 2015 Meredith graduate with a B.S. degree in Exercise and Sports Science.

A native of Roanoke, VA, Meadows is proud to join Wesleyan in its quest to establish Bishop lacrosse as a league contender, stating, "I am delighted to become part of the Battling Bishop family.  I am thankful for this opportunity to be on staff at North Carolina Wesleyan, and I look forward to working alongside Coach Walker in building a successful program."

Casey Young Selected As NASA Instructional Assistant
After a highly competitive search process, Casey Young, a NC Wesleyan Mathematics Major with a Secondary Education Minor, has been selected as a NASA Instructional Assistant for the MUREP Educator Institutes at Langley Research Center this May. Casey will work with members of the Institute's instructional team that will include the NASA Center's Educator Professional Development Collaborative (EPDC) specialist and an additional Education staff member assigned by the Center.  This 4-person team will utilize the suggested Institute curriculum and resources and will determine the daily schedule, arrange Center immersion experiences and NASA partner activities, deliver the Institute content, and assist with the facilitation of local arrangements.
Casey was selected last year as one of the Education students who attended a week long STEM training at NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, VA.  That opportunity provided her the chance to compete for the position as an instructional assistant.

Casey is a graduate of Eastern Wayne High School in Goldsboro, NC.  She plans to graduate from NC Wesleyan in 2019.  When asked about being selected, Casey said: "I am excited for this opportunity and hope to learn a lot from it!"
