Wesleyan And Edgecombe Community College Sign Transfer Agreement

Dr. Dewey Clark, President of NCWC, and Dr. Deborah Lamm, President of Edgecombe Community College, reauthorize an agreement that enables ECC graduates of specific Associate in Applied Science degrees to transfer to Wesleyan to complete four-year degrees
North Carolina Wesleyan College and Edgecombe Community College reauthorized a collaborative articulation agreement this month that will help qualified ECC graduates transfer to Wesleyan.

The goal is to enable a seamless transfer for students who enroll at Wesleyan following completion of their two-year degree at ECC.

The articulation agreement targets Edgecombe Community College students who complete specific Associate in Applied Science degrees:  Accounting, Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Early Childhood Education, General Education, Human Services Technology, Information Technology, Medical Assisting, Medical Office Administration, Nursing, and Office Administration.

Through the Independent Comprehensive Articulation Agreement with the North Carolina Community College System, ECC graduates who have completed an Associate in Arts degree or an Associate in Science degree may transfer to Wesleyan.

Transfer agreements for students who complete these degree programs have been in place for years between the community college and Wesleyan.

Wesleyan is among a number of independent North Carolina colleges and universities that have signed the Independent Comprehensive Articulation Agreement with the North Carolina Community College System.  This agreement enables any student who has obtained an Associate in Arts or an Associate in Science degree from any community college statewide to transfer into certain baccalaureate degree programs at Wesleyan.

NC Wesleyan Hosts First Youth Theology Institute

North Carolina Wesleyan College Youth Theology Institute completed its first residential week June 26-July 1.  Thirty-eight high school students from North Carolina's capital to the coast shared a week together on the NCWC campus exploring the Christian response to ethical issues on wealth and poverty.  Students traveled to a variety of experiential learning sites, such as churches and missions, in Rocky Mount, Conetoe, and Greenville.  After each event, students were grouped into smaller classes led by Wesleyan faculty to have an opportunity to discuss and frame the experiential learning opportunities in a theological context.  We also enjoyed daily worship, prayer and fellowship!  Please keep our YTI 2016 participants in your thoughts as they enter into year-long mentorships aimed to help the students grow in Christian leadership and service.

NC Wesleyan will host two separate cohorts next year.  The first residential program will be
July 9-14, 2017 and explores Christian ethics and justice.  The second program is July 16-21, 2017 and will examine Christian ethics and poverty/wealth.

You can learn more about the Youth Theology Institute and apply online at www.ncwc.edu/YTI.  If your ministry wants to participate as a partner with our program, please contact Kathryn Slocumb Carroll at (252) 985-5584.  To see more photos from this year's program, visit and

Here's what a few of our YTI students had to say about their week.

"As a result of attending the YTI, I plan to take on more leadership roles in my church, youth and community.  I have decided to start a Bible study called, 'Coffee with Jesus' that is open to all high school students in my community."  Kelsea, Manteo, NC

"My eyes have been opened to how much God cares about the poor and needy, and I've been challenged to help...I feel like I'm ready to go back into the real world and be the leader and Christian God desires me to be."  Will, Rocky Mount, NC

"I plan to go deeper in exploring my calling. I'm excited to go back to church and school with a knowledge of how to teach the Gospel and make a difference in a God-driven way."  Dianna, Battleboro, NC

"I want to be bolder and make a difference. I am more supplied to do that and want to be a light like these people have been to me. I feel like God was here. I got to experience what people talk about but few experience in and out of the classroom. I feel so full and ready to see God's plan for my life and my new friends. And for that I say thank you for what words can't begin to explain."  Abbey, Cary, NC

Teacher Education Students Participate In STEM Training

Nine teacher education students and two NC Wesleyan faculty members recently traveled to the NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia for STEM training.  They learned about some amazing composite materials and saw NASA's robot, ISAAC.  The students saw a machine that uses powdered steel and a layering process to build objects in a way similar to a 3D printer.  One of the highlights of the trip was spending the morning in a 12x24 subsonic wind tunnel with a Chief NASA engineer.
