The Rev. C. Anne Hallmark (Northern Region) is a seasoned parish priest and interim pastor, having served over thirty years in congregations within the Dioceses of Virginia and Chicago. She brings extensive knowledge and experience in congregational leadership to the diocese having been a proven leader and teacher in areas of organizational change, prayer practice, capital campaigns, and more. She earned her Masters of Divinity from Seabury Western Theological Seminary in 1987. Ann and her husband, Steve, are in the process of relocating from Springfield, VA to Traverse City.

The Rev. Valerie Ambrose (Central Region) has been a demonstrated leader in our diocese over the last twenty years of her priesthood, having served thirteen of our congregations in short and longterm appointments as interim, priest-in-charge, or associate priest. Her passion for supporting and equipping innovative and collaborative ministry will be crucial as we look to become the church we need to be today. She holds a Masters of Religious Education from Western Theological Seminary in Holland, MI. Val and her wife, Cathy, live in Grand Rapids.

For the past fifteen years, the Rev. Canon Bill Spaid has served Western Michigan as our Canon to the Ordinary and will continue on in the position of Canon Missioner for the Southern Region. I continue to be grateful for Bill’s steadfast and wise leadership in our community. Bill earned his Masters of Divinity from Nashotah House in 1986. Bill and his partner, Greg, live in Kalamazoo.

The Canon Missioners are members of the diocesan staff, working alongside the people and congregations of our diocese in the development of vital, mission oriented, and collaborative faith communities.

These positions are one way in which our diocese is becoming more responsive and flexible to the realities of the modern church. We are a diocese on the move and I look forward to discovering where the Spirit is leading us.

Peace,
The Rt. Rev. Whayne M. Hougland, Jr.
IX Bishop Diocesan,
The Episcopal Diocese of Western Michigan
