Bishop Coadjutor Election: Call to Prayerful Discernment

Print, video resources available for review; 'Versed' segment
clarification offered; ballot results to be posted online as received

As Diocesan Convention prepares to elect a bishop coadjutor Dec. 2-3, the diocesan community is encouraged to review the candidates' official statements made available in print and video, in English and Spanish, here. Full footage of one of four regional forums is here.

Voting delegates and alternates are especially asked to consider the statements with prayerful discernment. Full Convention information including the schedule, candidates for other diocesan offices, and draft legislation, is online here.

During the past three months, candidates also had the opportunity to participate in forums supplemental to the official media opportunities set by the Search Committee. Among these, a principal offering was the "Versed" Bible study series hosted by the Program Group on Youth & Young Adult Ministries and posted online via Facebook Live. Regrettably, one segment, though it initially received numerous live and on-demand views, was irretrievably lost by the Facebook platform due to a system error over which the Program Group had no control. The PGYM has offered this statement: "The Program Group on Youth & Young Adult Ministries regrets that the Rev. Anna Olson's time at Versed is not available to view. Due to a technical glitch in the stream the video was lost. The PGYM encourages everyone to move thoughtfully and prayerfully into this weekend by looking carefully at all the information available on the candidates for bishop coadjutor."

The first ballot is expected late morning on Friday, Dec. 2, following the Convention Eucharist. Results of that ballot, and any subsequent balloting, will be posted, as soon as available, online via the diocesan website (www.ladiocese.org), the diocesan social media accounts, and, as needed, email advisories by The Episcopal News.

Media inquiries may be directed to Robert Williams, Canon for Community Relations, rwilliams@ladiocese.org.

The following intercession, from the Book of Common Prayer, is offered here:

"Almighty God, giver of every good gift: Look graciously on your Church, and so guide the minds of those who shall choose a Bishop Coadjutor for this Diocese, that we may receive a faithful pastor, who will care for your people and equip us for our ministries; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen."
